Live racing at Delaware Park kicks off May 24 and runs through late October.

Once again this year, we will have Delaware Park picks and analysis for every day of live racing at the venerable track. Today’s card features nine races, and first post is 12:05 EDT.

Today’s carryovers: None

Race #1 Picks: 6-2-8-7

In this optional claiming/starter allowance race, #6 Ahsad (6-1) has been running well and has three wins He looks like a good bet against this field. #2 Sicilia Mike (3-1) Has been running well in Maryland and won as the favorite in his most recent race. This is a closer who will be passing tired horses late. He should be able to contend today. #8 Doin’ittherightway (6-1) has been running well and has a couple recent wins. He fits well with these.

Race #2 Picks: 6-1-8-7

In this $15,000 claiming race at 5 ½ furlongs, #6 Mister Banjoman (5-1) has been running on the turf but has shown she can also run on the dirt. The turf to dirt move also works for trainer Mac Robertson who has won at 24% in 92 attempts when making this switch. #1 Dark Timber (4-1) has been showing early speed and is now moving down the claiming ladder to $15,000. If he gets an uncontested lead he will be hard to catch. #8 Aristocratic (7-2) did not run well in his most recent race but was very solid before that. Hi is unusually in the mix and figures to finish near the front again today.

Race #3 Pick: 2-1-6-5

In this allowance/optional claiming race at one mile, #2 Loose Goose (4-1) just missed against better horses in last. He might have a slight class advantage over this field. He will be passing horses late and has a good chance to get into the winner’s circle today. #1 Coach Adams (2-1) was running well at Monmouth, and Monmouth shippers have done well at Delaware. His speed figures look solid and he is a top competitor today. #6 Brother Brad (3-1) is a fairly consistent performer who had a win at Delaware this summer. He fits well with this group.

Race #4 Picks: 2-6-5-4

In this $6250 claiming race at six furlongs, #2 The Bearrish One (6-1) has had some decent races this year including a second here with $12,500 claimers. He will be making his second consecutive start at this level and we think he will show improvement. #6 Notion to Tapit (3-1) will be making his first start for Joseph Woodit. This horse already has 17 races this year with one win. He should be in the mix and find his way into the exotics. #5 Edward Madden (9-2) occasionally throws in a good a race and if he runs one today he will be competitive with this group.

Race #5 Picks: 8-2-3-7

In this $6250 N2L claiming race at one mile, #8 Carico (5-1) has been flashing speed on the turf and now he will be dropping in class and trying dirt. He won on the dirt before in a race taken off the turf. Trainer Victor Barboza has won at 25% in 42 attempts for a $2.72 ROI when horses move from turf to dirt. #2 Steele Money (4-1) made a late bid with $10,000 claimers. Now dropping in class and looks like a top contender with this group. #3 O T C Wiz (6-1) won a maiden race in last and is running for a high-percentage trainer. One to consider.

Joe’s Notes

  • Trainer Michael Simone won a pair and now has seven wins at the meet, while Michael Gorham won one to inch ahead of Brittany Russell by one win for sole possession of second in the trainer standings…
  • Scream Machine showed little on debut but wheeled back just a week later to score a 12-1 maiden special weight upset yesterday for jockey Angel Arroyo and trainer Mac Robertson…

Race #6 Pick: 5-7-6-9

In this $5000 N2Y race for fillies and mares at six furlongs, #5 Purrfect Mistress (8-1) has been showing early speed against better horses at Parx. She already has three wins this year, and we think she will prevail against this group. #7 Chloe Rose (10-1) had two good races in September and if she can repeat one of those she has a shot today. She has two wins at this distance. She fits well with these and could surprise today. #6 My Boss Lady (7-2) is taking a class drop and cutting back in distance. She has three wins at this distance and should be considered.

Race #7 Picks: 6-2-1-4

In this $38,000 maiden special race for two-year-old fillies at six furlongs, #6 Trick of the Light (6-1) is a first-time starter who has been working well. She had two five-furlong works in October, and that should help her endurance today. #2 Arch Street (5-2) has two races under her belt and that experience should help her.  She ran third as the favorite in last try but should improve today. #1 Sky Victory (7-2) is a first-time starter who has been working well for high-percentage trainer Brittany Russell. One to consider.

Race #8 Picks: 3-2-1-4

In this allowance/optional claiming race for fillies and mares at one mile, #3 My Maggie Moo (2-1) closed well in a first-level allowance race to finish second in last and ahead of a couple to today’s foes. She seems to have the edge today and we have her on top. #2 Bossyness (4-1) has won three straight and is in excellent form.  Ness and Rodriguez will win the jockey and trainer titles again this year and will try to put an exclamation point on it today. This filly will be stalking the pace and looking to make a late move. #1 It’s Her Time (3-1) Had the lead in a first-level allowance in last but gave way late to a couple horses including My Maggie Moo. She should be in the mix again today.

Race #9 Picks: 5-1-3-2

In this optional claiming/starter allowance race for fillies and mares at 5 ½ furlongs, #5 Wild Army Brat (3-1) was claimed while winning on the turf in last. Now moving back to the dirt and fits well here. She was competitive against better horses this summer and may have a small class advantage over these. #1 One Tough Dame (8-1) won her last race and finished ahead of a couple of today’s foes in the process. She was claimed in that race and will be making her first start for Chelsey Mosey. She fits well with these. #3 Avatal Hero (2-1) has some decent races this year against tough competition. One to consider.
