Which jockeys and trainers at Parx Racing have been hot? Funny you should ask: we wondered the same thing.

So we created a quick-and-dirty metric for the handicappers among us. The metric includes wins, win percentage, and wagering return on investment in one number. To limit it to who’s hot, we’ve included data from just the past 15 live cards — since March 14, 2021.

JOCKEYS EN FUEGO

Over the last 15 live cards, jockey Ruben Silvera has continued to assert himself as the hottest local rider, leading the colony in wins, win percentage, and earnings and building a heat index score of 151.

Silvera has 31 wins from 99 starts, good for a win percentage of 31.3%. His wagering ROI is -15%.

Frankie Pennington (18 wins, 23.7% strike rate) is the only other rider with a triple-digit score; he’s at 110.

Mychel Sanchez (18 wins), Silvestre Gonzalez (eight wins) and Jaime Rodriguez (nine wins) round out the top five in the heat index.

The colony leader in ROI resides outside the top five. That’s Roberto Rosado, who is 10th win a score of 59. He has four wins from 19 starters (21%) and an ROI of +35%.

The average score of all riders with at least one win at Parx was 44.4. Twenty-five jockeys have won at least one race in the last 15 cards.

TRAINERS EN FUEGO

It’s probably a safe bet that no other trainer anywhere is hotter than Jamie Ness has been at Parx over the last 15 cards. Ness has gone 26-for-52 — a preposterous 50% strike rate — and has racked up nearly three times as many wins as any other local trainer. He also has a wagering ROI of +50%.

Three others — Robert Mosco, Butch Reid, and Louis Linder — have heat index scores over 100. Mosco leads all trainers with more than one win in wagering ROI; his is +100%, and he’s gone 9-for-21 over the last 15 cards.

Reid has five wins (from 13 starts) and a +18% ROI, while Linder is 8-for-31. Ronald Dandy is fifth with 97 points on a 5-for-18 mark and -6% ROI.

The average score of all trainers with at least one win at Parx was 46.1 points. Sixty-four trainers have won at least one race in the last 15 cards.
