From a Colonial Downs release

The theme for the second running of the Dogwood Classic was announced today on Play 103.7’s “Jack & Melissa’s” Richmond based morning show and tailgating attendees that have an affinity for James Bond and casino type activities will be pleased.

“Casino Royale” is the theme and Colonial Downs officials are encouraging attendees to embrace that when planning Dogwood Classic tailgate décor, food and beverage offerings, and attire worn by both male and female partygoers.

“Casino Royale” was the name of author Ian Fleming’s first James Bond novel in 1953. The original TV adaptation of the novel occurred in 1954, and the original Casino Royale  spy movie came out in 1967 starring David Niven and a large ensemble cast. Actor Daniel Craig’s first Bond role was in the 2006 version of “Casino Royale” which produced $599 million in box office receipts.

“We hope folks get really creative on what they wear to the Dogwood Classic and how they decorate their tailgate parties,” said Dogwood’s celebrity spokesperson Jack Lauterback. “Red and black checkered tablecloths, fuzzy dice, martini type cocktails and upscale dining options are just a few of the aspects that could be considered.”

Awards will be given out on Dogwood Day for the best themed tailgate and fanciest hats worn based on theme.

Tailgating spots are on sale at www.dogwoodclassic.com along the homestretch for $200 or along the backstretch and in the turns for $125. Each tailgate spot also includes six general admission tickets. Additional tickets can be purchased in advance or day of the event for $10.

Anyone that purchases a tailgate spot will receive an invitation for 2 to the Dogwood Classic all-inclusive “Launch Party” Saturday March 1st at the Bull & Bear Club. The invitation only event, which runs from 4-8 PM, includes food, beverages, “for fun” casino games and live music with the band Vinyl Headlights.
