Jock Charlie Marquez earns first win

Making just the eighth start of his career, 16-year-old apprentice jockey Charlie Marquez earned his first win Thursday at Laurel Park.

The Maryland Racing Commission today approved a racing schedule for 2014 — but it was the issue of jockey weight allowances that stole the show.

On a big day at Laurel Park, three of the four stake winners paid at least $16 to win.
