Arnaldo Bocachica has been on a roll at Charles Town. With seven visits to the winner’s circle since June 20, Bocachica has been able to maintain his place on top of the colony. With his recent success, he has 350.25 points in our alternative rankings, once again keeping him ahead of his competition.
Just as in our prior rankings from June 20, the four jockeys that follow Bocachica remain identical. Jose Montano is in second with 339.60 points, just ahead of Christian Hiraldo’s 336.04. Xavier Perez and J.D. Acosta remain in fourth and fifth-place on the leaderboard, respectively, but both riders have experienced a slight decrease in their point standings, as they have not been competing at Charles Town as often as before. Perez has dropped from 298.29 points to 292.12, and Acosta has dropped from 293.66 points to 289.90.
Our ranking system incorporates wins, wins percentage, earnings per start, and wagering return on investment. The leading rider in each category receives a score of 100 per category, with other jockeys obtaining a percentage of that. That means that a leader in all four categories would receive a score of 400 total.
The rating system is designed to highlight individuals who win frequently, and score in major races. Our stats have been applied to each jockey at Charles Town who has competed in at least 40 races and won at least once.
Bocachica’s impressive total of 68 victories has him ahead of the competition once again when it comes to the win category. However, just like before, Hiraldo is not far behind. Hiraldo has added eight wins to his name since our last check-in and now has 65 victories. Gerald Almodovar remains in third position behind them, with 56 trips to the winner’s circle. Montano and Antonio Lopez complete the top five, with 47 and 34 wins, respectively.
Consistency has been the theme for the riders at Charles Town, as the standings for win percentages remains relatively unchanged. Bocachica, Montano, Perez, and Hiraldo remain in the top five, with win percentages of 25.37, 23.86, 21.95, and 21.24 percent, respectively. However, there has been a new name added to the top five when it comes to win percentage. Lopez has taken the spot in fifth away from Acosta, and now sits in the top five with a strike rate of 20.48 percent.
With earnings per start of $4,464, Perez remains on top in this category. Bocachica remains behind him in second, with earnings per start of $4,097. Lopez slides into number three, with earnings of $3,462 per start. Montano and Acosta round out the top five, with earnings per start of $3,413 and $3,262, respectively.
Montano’s position on top in terms of wagering ROI has not changed since our previous check-in. On average, Montano returns $2.36 for every $2 win wager placed on his horses. Just like before, Acosta remains behind him in second, with an ROI of $2.34. Kim Cecil sits in third with an ROI of $2.30. The top five is rounded out by Perez and Luis Batista, who have wagering ROI’s of $2.18 and $2.14 apiece.
This report includes racing action through July 11, 2018.
