Delaware Park picks and analysis: August 8, 2025
Picks and analysis for this afternoon’s card from Delaware Park:
- RACES ON CARD: 8
- CARRYOVERS: None
- POST TIME: 12:30 p.m.
RACE 1
5. High Heel Native | Sire Spun to Run not exactly setting the world on fire, but one of this one’s half-sibs won on debut and trainer Reed had a debut near-winner (who was DQed) earlier this meet |
4. Mom Esterina | Showed good speed in debut; ought to be fitter now |
2. Divine Seeker | The morning bullets will attract plenty of attention |
RACE 2
1. Sassafrassness | Beat older two back and drops out of allowance company for top barn |
6. Tuned to the Moon | Drops from allowance company after a pair of bland efforts despite being well bet; blinks go on, and this one might be winging it up front |
5. Tricky River | Graduated two back, and first against winners was OK |
RACE 3
6. Hegs | In two turf tries, the speed hasn’t really come back; there’s enough signed on here that if the race holds together, it might, and this one will be running late |
10. Kunooz | Should be a major player if drawing in |
4. Country Charlie | Speed of the speed |
8. Great Artist | First turf try versus winners was competitive |

RACE 4
6. Sina | Very good debut at Churchill behind $300k yearling Chopsticks |
7. Tap Into Grace | First foal out of a four-time winner for a barn with big stats first out |
2. Sweet Shenanigans | Trainer Capuano in the last 5 years is 7-for-18 with debut runners in special weight company with a positive ROI |
RACE 5
1. Pallino | Has run well in both tries versus $16k types |
6. Discreet Devil | Really didn’t run poorly in latest versus much better at 167-1 |
2. Great Kisser | Has had a tough time with the three-life condition but best efforts contend |
RACING NOTES
- Check out Delaware Park jockey and trainer stats through Aug. 2 here…
- Jockey Carol Cedeno had a big day, winning three times, not once on the favorite. One of her wins came in the $50,000 Delaware certified showcase aboard Sam Stormy ($44.60), trained by Giovanni Salinas. The five-year-old rallied from midflight to win by a neck over veteran Crabs N Beer…
- Cedeno also won perhaps the day’s oddest race. That was the seventh, a starter/optional claimer, in which 1-2 favorite Spikezone did not leave the gate and ultimately walked off. The primary beneficiary was Karan’s Notion, with Cedeno up for owner-breeder-trainer Nancy Heil…
- You might want to keep an eye on Rose Room ($4.60), who won Thursday at first asking with Julio Hernandez up for trainer Michael Stidham. The two-year-old Ghostzapper filly, a Godolphin homebred who’s a half-sister to multiple graded winner Pixelate, stalked the pace in fifth and blew past her rivals with only modest encouragement to win by two lengths…
- It was a bombs-away! kinda day: the late Pick 5, with a sequence that included 21-1 Sam Stormy, 6-1 Karan’s Notion, and 9-2 Practical Coach returned $14,685.35 on a 50-cent wager…
RACE 6
3. Itsamonstamash | Last couple are good and makes third start off the bench; wide rally in latest |
1. In My Memories | Won twice here last year and has group’s best speed figs; curious to see how this race develops, as this one and #4 both are likely to show speed |
2. Intrepid Mo | Figs don’t measure up, but debut was excellent despite disastrous trip and follow-up victory has produced a winner and three runners-up from four to run back |
RACE 7
8. Renovator | Dam was a three-time winner on the lawn, and trainer Matz has a postive ROI with first-timers |
5. Leverage | This half of the Motion pair gets one of his regular riders at DEL |
6. Tyrus | Sire was a multiple G1 winner on turf, and his offspring have been running pretty well first out, though few early winners |
RACE 8
1. King Size | $925k yearling’s sibs haven’t been much, but this one is bred similarly to G1 winners Beyond Brilliant and Gift Box; barn can win first out |
6. Platform | Showed speed in debut, can improve |
7. Farooq | Half-brother to stakes winner and nearly $700k earner Galerio figures better as he ages |
