RACING NOTES

  • Check out Delaware Park jockey and trainer stats through Aug. 2 here
  • Jockey Carol Cedeno had a big day, winning three times, not once on the favorite. One of her wins came in the $50,000 Delaware certified showcase aboard Sam Stormy ($44.60), trained by Giovanni Salinas. The five-year-old rallied from midflight to win by a neck over veteran Crabs N Beer
  • Cedeno also won perhaps the day’s oddest race. That was the seventh, a starter/optional claimer, in which 1-2 favorite Spikezone did not leave the gate and ultimately walked off. The primary beneficiary was Karan’s Notion, with Cedeno up for owner-breeder-trainer Nancy Heil…
  • You might want to keep an eye on Rose Room ($4.60), who won Thursday at first asking with Julio Hernandez up for trainer Michael Stidham. The two-year-old Ghostzapper filly, a Godolphin homebred who’s a half-sister to multiple graded winner Pixelate, stalked the pace in fifth and blew past her rivals with only modest encouragement to win by two lengths…
  • It was a bombs-away! kinda day: the late Pick 5, with a sequence that included 21-1 Sam Stormy, 6-1 Karan’s Notion, and 9-2 Practical Coach returned $14,685.35 on a 50-cent wager…

RACE 6

3. ItsamonstamashLast couple are good and makes third start off the bench; wide rally in latest
1. In My MemoriesWon twice here last year and has group’s best speed figs; curious to see how this race develops, as this one and #4 both are likely to show speed
2. Intrepid MoFigs don’t measure up, but debut was excellent despite disastrous trip and follow-up victory has produced a winner and three runners-up from four to run back

RACE 7

8. RenovatorDam was a three-time winner on the lawn, and trainer Matz has a postive ROI with first-timers
5. LeverageThis half of the Motion pair gets one of his regular riders at DEL
6. TyrusSire was a multiple G1 winner on turf, and his offspring have been running pretty well first out, though few early winners
IF DIRT: 1-2-9

RACE 8

1. King Size$925k yearling’s sibs haven’t been much, but this one is bred similarly to G1 winners Beyond Brilliant and Gift Box; barn can win first out
6. PlatformShowed speed in debut, can improve
7. FarooqHalf-brother to stakes winner and nearly $700k earner Galerio figures better as he ages
