VIDEO: Looking ahead to the Maryland Million Sprint

The Racing Biz and Maryland Million team up this year to create a series of videos previewing the big day. In the first of them, John and Frank take a look at the Maryland Million Sprint.

Air Token, the 2021 champ, and Karan’s Notion, the 2020 winner, both seem likely to take another crack at the Sprint. But it’s a Pennsylvania-bred who rarely runs in Maryland who’s caught John’s eye.

Fortheluvofbourbon finished a farily nondescript sixth in last year’s edition of the Sprint. But the five-year-old Mike Pino trainee has won five of seven this year, two in stakes company. And he’s beaten De Francis Dash winner Beren twice to augment his resume.

Here’s the skinny on that Bourbon Courage gelding.

  • 5yo gelding by Bourbon Courage
  • Trainer Michael Pino
  • Owner Smart Angle LLC
  • Bred in Pennsylvania by Hidden Acres 4-D Farm
  • Career record of 21: 10-1-3 with earnings of $461,720
  • Highlights: Back-to-back wins in Banjo Picker Sprint Stakes (2021-22); won 2022 Page McKenney Handicap
