Laurel Park delays Friday post time

Citing a combination of “heat stress, temperature, and humidity” in the late morning and early afternoon, the Maryland Jockey Club has pushed back its first post on Friday, August 5 to 1:50 p.m.

That’s 70 minutes after the originally scheduled 12:40 opener. It’s the second time in recent weeks the track has had a delayed first post, both times for heat reasons.

The Laurel Friday card includes nine races. It features a third-level allowance sprint on the dirt as race eight. Also on the docket are a pair of Maryland-restricted allowance contests and a maiden special weight for older horses.

Saturday’s Laurel card is highlighted by a pair of turf stakes, while Sunday’s eight-race program includes a turf sprint for two-year-old maiden fillies.
