RACE NUMBERCONTENDERSCOMMENTS
Race 72-5-10-9Trainer Jamie Ness is winning at a 34% clip at the meet, and when he legs up rider Frankie Pennington, they’ve won 54% of their starts in the last 60 days; that’s not a typo. So you have to give a long, hard look to #2 Striking a Pose (2-1), a runner Ness claimed out of his last at Churchill Downs. Claiming Kentucky horses and moving them north has proven a successful angle for some trainers, Ness does well first off the claim, and the stars look to be aligned here… #5 Mean Machine (10-1) drops out of better company into this spot, and his last dirt start did him no favors; the top pair both came back to win, and winner Why Why Paul Why has been ultra-impressive of late… The lightly raced #10 Road to Success (3-1) shifts into the Linda Rice barn and probably will be on the engine from the outside stall… #9 This Ill Defend (7-2) has proven he’s competitive at this level…
Race 92-5-8-4There’s all kinds of early zip in this starter allowance, which should be good news for #2 Icy Dude (6-1). Making his third start off a bit of a layoff and entering in good form, this one figures to have his “a” game and should have the right kind of pace scenario to unleash his late run under Jeremy Laprida… #5 Marco Island (6-1) may be the speed of the speed here and ran a good one in last when second but well clear of the rest… #8 Flat Out Flashy (3-1) doesn’t win all that frequently but usually runs a good race and can compete here… #4 Flat Out Flying (5-1) is another who figures to be coming late, but we’re not entirely sold on the quality of the Delaware races he’s exiting…
