CT: Crystal Veil looks tough in Casey Memorial
Has beaten each of her rivals at least twice
Crystal Veil appears headed toward honors as West Virginia’s top 2-year-old filly. Saturday, she can all but lock it down in the $75,000 James and Eleanor Casey Memorial at Charles Town.
The seven-furlong test for West Virginia-bred juvenile fillies drew just four runners, with Crystal Veil installed as the 3-5 morning-line favorite. She will seek her fourth consecutive victory against three rivals she has already beaten by open lengths.

Trained by Anthony Farrior for Fuzzy Whiz LLC and James F. Miller, Crystal Veil has won three of four starts and earned $101,735. Each of her victories has come by at least 4¾ lengths.
The daughter of Authentic broke her maiden August 14, opening a seven-length early advantage before winning by 4¾ lengths. A Notable Nature finished second, with Kickin’ With Caity third.

Crystal Veil followed that with a 5¼-length score in the September 18 John McKee Memorial, again beating A Notable Nature. On a Pedestal finished third.
Most recently, Crystal Veil handled her first try around two turns with a front-running, 4¾-length victory in the October 10 West Virginia Triple Crown Nutrition Breeders Classic at 6½ furlongs. On a Pedestal chased her home, while A Notable Nature finished third.
Saturday’s assignment adds another sixteenth of a mile. Jeiron Barbosa, aboard for all four of Crystal Veil’s starts, retains the mount from post four. All four entrants will carry 122 pounds.
On a Pedestal, the 5-2 second choice, will seek to reverse the result of her last two meetings with the favorite. The Dialed In filly won her September 10 debut by 3½ lengths before placing in both stakes attempts.
Owned and bred by Jill Daniel and trained by Stacey Viands, On a Pedestal has earned $42,945 in three starts. Jose Montano rides from post two.
A Notable Nature enters off her first victory, a 6¼-length maiden score October 21 at 6½ furlongs. The Juba filly needed seven starts to break through but brings two stakes placings and the field’s most racing experience. Trained by Ronald Sigler for Casey’s Legacy LLC, she is 4-1 with Antonio Lopez aboard.
Farrior also sends out 6-1 shot Kickin’ With Caity, a maiden who finished second to A Notable Nature last out in her third career start. Arnaldo Bocachica rides the Vekoma filly from the rail.
The James and Eleanor Casey Memorial Stakes is carded as the fourth race on an eight-race program. Post time for the card is 7:00 p.m.
