Off to the Races returns to the airwaves September 10 with a show featuring Colonial Downs head of racing Jill Byrne and handicapper Barry Spears.

Colonial Downs track announcer Jason Beem will call his third Virginia Derby Tuesday and says of big race nerves, “The waiting is the hardest part.”

Off to the Races Radio returns to the air July 31 with a lively show that will kick off one hour later than usual, at 11:00 a.m.

Full fields and a festive crowd turned out for the rebirth — after six years — of the new Colonial Downs.

This week’s Off to the Races radio will include Colonial Downs track announcer Jason Beem and Preakness-winning trainer Mark Casse.

With track announcer Frank Mirahmadi committed to Santa Anita Park until late June, Jason Beem will fill in at Monmouth Park until then.
