RACECONTENDERSANALYSIS
Race 66-5-8-4There sure looks to be a lot of early speed in this allowance contest, which pushes us in the direction of a horse who’s shown some ability to sit off the pace at least a bit. #6 Youthinkthatsfunny (5-2) isn’t a closer by any means, but two back, he sat off it in fourth before powering home to win. He won a couple of stakes at two and was third on WVBC night last fall, and with all the speed horses that figure to by vying for early supremacy, he might be sitting in the catbird seat… If one of the speed horses does survive the early struggle, it’s likely to be morning line favorite #5 River Crosroad RVF (4-5). That’s both because he’s likely the best of the speed horses and also because he’s shown in his career that he doesn’t need the early advantage to win. The Jeff Runco trainee achieved early (and unfortunate) prominence when, twice in his first four starts, he bolted rounding the far turn while on the lead. That problem’s fixed now, it seems, and he arrives on a three-race win streak… #8 Savatiano (15-1) will need a lot of things to go right to get the money tonight, but the flow of the race should be in his favor… The speedy Fiber and Emily (10-1) should be involved early; the question is whether he’ll still be around late…
Race 72-4-8-6We’ll give the nod here to #2 Shameless Risk (6-1). The Ronney Brown trainee had a useful return from a 10-month break when third going 4 1/2 furlongs last out, which may set him up nicely to move forward today. The added ground is probably a plus. Prior to the break, he’d caught some of the top local runners, including undefeated Muad’dib twice and Fancy Concho. Those sorts aren’t here… #4 San Antone (8-5) has been a near-miss second twice against similar… #8 Midnight Shift (5-1) makes his first start in the Anthony Farrior barn, which continues to be on a heater locally… #6 Sheriff Chip (9-5) will look to recapture his better form in here. Trainer Dale Capuano is 0-for-5 at CT so far this young season…
