RACE NUMBERCONTENDERSCOMMENTS
Race 64-6-7-1Couple of interesting players in this waiver maiden claiming contest for two-year-olds. Our top choice is #4 Wispering Springs (6-1), who had a sneaky good effort on debut. The son of Divining Rod broke quite sluggishly and was immediately last and well off the leader. He then rushed up on the outside, inhaling the entire field and briefly putting a head in front. He tired late but still managed to hold second. He should be sharper second time out, and if he gets out of the gate in good order, he’ll have a chance to take a big step forward… #6 Monogram (5-1) was involved early but faded late, to fourth, in his debut going two turns at Delaware Park. That might serve him well on the cutback in distance for his second start here… #7 Ageless Endeavor (5-2) was a good third in his debut before disappointing at even money last out at Penn National. A return to his debut form might be good enough today… They liked #1 Dadashev (8-1) enough to try him in the Smoke Glacken Stakes at Monmouth in his second start. That was, predictably, a thrashing, but dropped into more congenial company, he could improve today…
Race 91-7-8-2The formful #1 Stonegate (5-2) has won his last two starts on the main track and should be able to work out a good stalking trip from the inside gate. He’s shown the ability to be up close and win but also to run into the pace if need be… The late-running #7 Ronin Warrior (9-2) doesn’t win much — just two wins from 22 starts — but figures to be running at the end in a race that could have some early zip to it. He was fourth last out but beaten just a half-length, and winner Twitty City came right back to step up into allowance company and win… The lightly raced #8 Imagine This (10-1) still has some upside and looks to be forging towards his better form… Let’s give #2 Just a Thought (5-1) one more crack. The John Servis trainee threw in a clunker last time in his first since May but owns the right to move forward today…
