- What we learned on Maryland Juvenile Stakes dayHere’s what we learned at Laurel Park for Saturday’s Maryland Juvenile and Maryland Juvenile Filly Stakes.
RACE NUMBER | CONTENDERS | COMMENTS |
Race 5 | 6-4-8-1 | Here’s a fairly rare species of race: a race for two-year-old winners that’s not a stake… We’ll take a swing with #6 Windsors Tail (5-1). The Tim Grams trainee won nicely last out at second asking, scoring by three, and comes right back at the same 4 1/2-furlong distance. Trainer Grams has a good record with horses who broke their maidens last time… #4 Cajun Invasion (5-2) probably faced the toughest company of any of these when breaking his maiden last out at Delaware Park, and he’s shown the kind of early zip you need to compete in these CT dashes. Our only hesitation here is accepting favoritism on a horse who’s never raced under the lights or on a bullring… #8 We B Shackin (9-2) scored impressively in his debut. His follow-up wasn’t quite so strong, but he was fractious before the race, so let’s give him another crack… #1 Golden Hughes (7-2) ran second versus similar last out — though beaten eight lengths — and can move forward in his second after a two-month break… |
Race 7 | 1-6-2-4 | We may live to regret this, but we’ll try for an upset with #1 River Rewards RVF (10-1). Trainer Ronney Brown claimed this runner out of her debut, which she won against $12,500 claimers. It’s a big step up, but she handled that contest well, and the price should be right… #6 Eye of the Needle (7-2) graduated nicely last out and has run some pretty good two-turn races… #2 Love to Zoom (9-5) hasn’t missed by much in two tries versus similar and could give Brown a one-two finish here… #4 Creative Splendor (8-1) had to drop down into the claiming ranks to graduate, which she did two back, but she stepped back into allowance ranks last out and ran a solid race to be third… |

but Farrior’s sure were.
No love for giving out the triple in the 5th?!?!? 🙂
Farrior’s did not fill my bill.
7th.Frank and Ronney were right,
but I’m the one that cashed the win ticket
and was”River Rewarded”with the $97 exacta.
because I do have respect for them.
congrats on the exacta. Hated the winner there at short odds, so left only with the moral victory of liking a 12-1 who ran 2nd.
I,too like recent claims by a decent trainer,
you gave me the clue,I depend on you to get me started.
