Foiled Va-bred Derby hopefuls earn redemption

Quality Road and Bodemeister sired the Oaks-Derby double last weekend — quite a feat for a pair of Virginia-breds whose own Derby dreams were dashed.

New sires outpaced the market as a whole at yesterday’s Fasig-Tipton sale — and the sale’s top-seller came from newcomer Quality Road.

Horses bred in the mid-Atlantic accounted for a big share of yesterday’s Fasig-Tipton yearling sale, and the news was mostly positive.
