HEIR PORT IS FIRST WINNER FOR SIRE MOSLER

The word was out on Heir Port. Though the two-year-old was making the first start of his career, the betting public made him the 9-10 favorite in Monmouth Park’s fourth race August 9, a $40,000 maiden claiming event.
And the bettors proved prescient. Under Monmouth Park leading jockey Paco Lopez, Heir Port romped to a 4 1/2-length victory to give Maryland-based sire Mosler his first winner.

Nine horses, including Eclipse Award winners and classic victors, have been named as finalists for the Maryland Thoroughbred Hall of Fame.
Heir Port, a homebred for New Farm trained by Ben Perkins, Jr., entered the contest with a series of fast works under his belt. He is out of the Wildcat Heir mare Heir Stream
Heir Port was never far back in Sunday’s race, running a few lengths off the lead while three wide. When straightened away for home, he gobbled up the leaders and was in hand late.
He was claimed for $40,000 out of the race by trainer Dale Bennett and SAB Stable Inc.
Mosler, a nine-year-old son of War Front, won five races in his career, two in stakes company. He also was graded stakes-placed en route to earning $341,396. He stands at Maryland’s Country Life Farm for $4,000.
