CT: Im the Director takes allowance feature

Wears down Youthinkthatsfunny for narrow score

Trainer Cynthia McKee bookended Thursday’s $36,200 allowance feature at Charles Town Races, as Im the Director prevailed by a neck while post-time favorite No Change finished eighth.

Im the Director broke sharply under jockey Reshawn Latchman and settled in to press the pace of 11-1 Nocashrefunds while racing two wide. The duo  slugged it out through fractions of :24.17 and :48.92.

Rounding the turn, Im the Director appeared to be toiling, but when Youthinkthatsfunny loomed to his out side and put a head in front, Im the Director had the answer.

Turning for home, the gray Redirect gelding was asked to run and responded gamely, slipping between rivals in upper stretch and digging in through a prolonged stretch battle. Im the Director held sway late over Youthinkthatsfunny to stop the clock in 1:28.04 for seven furlongs on a fast main track.

Nocashrefunds, part of the early pace while saving ground along the rail, stayed on willingly to finish third, a couple of lengths behind Youthinkthatsfunny but a nose ahead Muad’dib, who made a four-wide bid from off the pace but flattened late to be fourth. Social Chic saved ground throughout and lacked a finishing kick.

Im the Director, who won two stakes at two, is now 8-for-19 in his career with over $240,000 in earnings. He was bred by the late John McKee and is owned by Cynthia McKee’s Beau Ridge Farm LLC. He returned $7.60 to win.

Trainer Jeff Runco won twice, sending out Flyin Mayan to win a state-bred allowance as the 1-5 favorite and capping the evening with a debut victory for Mitote, a three-year-old Unified colt who won a maiden special weight contest by a half-length as the 3-2 choice…
