RACE 1
7-6-4-5
In the Saturday night opener, a one-turn dash for maiden $12,500 claimers, #7 Small Paw (6-5) gets favorable outside draw and looms poised to prevail as post time favorite for trainer Angelo Jackson. #6 Nice But Naughty (4-1) draws well and gives Jackson golden chance to run one-two in this spot. #4 Orangeburg (5-2) finally exits maiden special weight company in 11th career try for trainer Elizabeth Meehan and could split all-Jackson exacta. #5 Boo Too (15-1) also exits a quartet of maiden special weight events and could forge spooky shocker with Halloween appraching.
RACE 2
1-3-5-2
In this rare, three-turn starter allowance for older males, #1 Positive Phil (3-1) gets favorable inside draw and looks poised for mild upset here for trainer Anthony Farrior. #3 Northern Ridge (5-2) has been fourth in each of last two after win against similar for trainer Jamey Johnson and should make his presence known. #5 Jammin Jimtown (1-1) figures to get ample support here and could be odds-on for trainer Wade Sanderson. #2 Prota (5-1) should be able to work out a favorable trip and potentially complete several gimmicks here.
- What we learned on Maryland Juvenile Stakes dayHere’s what we learned at Laurel Park for Saturday’s Maryland Juvenile and Maryland Juvenile Filly Stakes.
RACE 3
2-7-1-3
In this second of two, rare, three-turn events on the card, #2 Alittlesliceof Pie (1-1) has been second and first in each of last two local tries for trainer Dale Capuano and looks set for another solid score as possible odds-on choice. #7 Gossiping (9-5) was solid second last out for trainer Ernesto Perez and could forge mild upset here. #1 Tinas Shining Star (12-1) gets favorable inside draw for this event and could complete several gimmicks at a generous price for trainer Kevin Joy. #3 Rhythm Tree (20-1) also appears capable of overcoming long shot status in this spot.
RACE 4
1-7-4-6
In this two-turn event for $5,000 claiming fillies and mares, #1 Feisty Kitten (6-1) gets favorable rail draw and New Jersey invader gets the nod for mild upset here. #7 Mongolian Hero (4-5) also makes local debut off solid effort at Delaware Park and looms odds-on choice despite outside draw here for trainer Mike Jones, Jr. #4 Snow Candy (5-1) returns to spot where she won twice over the winter and certainly rates upset chance. #6 Shanghai Candy (9-2) gives Jones decent chance to run one-two in this spot.
RACE 5
1-3-5-4
In this two-turn event for $5,000 claiming fillies and mares, #1 Seeds of Time (9-2) gets favorable inside draw and should be able to work out a smooth trip in this spot. #3 She Figures (2-1) sports back class with prior win in the Distaff BC and looks to regain that form here for trainer Kevin Joy. #5 Map Em Up (6-1) has been consistent sort throughout the season and could split the top pair at a modest price. #4 U Know I B Lion (8-1) also merits an upset chance and could complete several gimmicks at a generous price.
RACE 6
3-4-7-5
In this competitive, one-turn allowance dash for state-breds, #3 Drinkwiththestars (8-5) has been second in each of last two outings after winning first two starts for trainer Ronney Brown and looms the one to beat in this spot. #4 Manhattan Weave (5-2) won last and merits respect in repeat bid for trainer Anthony Farrior. #7 Remys Gumsmoke (5-1) also won last out for trainer Tim Grams and favorable outside draw gives him upset chance. #5 Hopping Henry (6-1) remains winless in 10 starts this year and is still seeking to regain freshman form for trainer Michael Sterling.
- Maryland Juvenile: A mystery solved, decades laterSaturday’s Maryland Juvenile Stakes should be a fun race, but it’s unlikely to launch the careers of two Classic winners, like the 1982 edition did.
RACE 7 – $75,000 Eleanor Casey Memorial
4-3-7-5
In this competitive, contentious and wide-open edition of the Eleanor Casey for West Virginia-bred two-year-old fillies, #4 Sail On Breeze (5-1) has been the beaten favorite in each of her two previous stakes tries and looks to make amends for both in this spot for trainer Jeff Runco. #3 Marz Express (7-2) won the Triple Crown Nutrition BC at 13-1 in her stakes debut and already owns two victories in two-turn events here for trainer Anthony Farrior. #7 Juba’s Parade (9-2) has been second to Marz Express in each of her last two outings and could finally turn the tables on that one in this spot. #5 Lightnin Runner (4-1) has won both of her starts at generous prices and seeks second straight stakes score while trying two turns for the first time.
RACE 8
1-8-5-6
In the Saturday night finale and the last live event here for the month of October, #1 Nobody’s Secret (9-2) gets favorable inside draw for trainer Claudio Gonzalez and looks poised for mild upset in the finale. #8 Sakari (7-5) looms the solid favorite for trainer Kieron Magee and will need to avoid wide journey and traffic on the first turn. #5 Excuses Excuses (5-1) will make her presence known through the early stages for trainer Kevin Patterson and cannot be overlooked here. #6 Tough One (6-1) also merits respect at a generous price in the night and monthly finale for trainer Ernesto Perez.
