RACE 1
3-2-1-5
In the opener, a one-turn dash for $5,000 claimers, #3 Lady Licious (8-5) returns from a start at Mountaineer Park and should have found spot to regain winning ways for trainer Ollie Figgins, III of Dance to Bristol fame. #2 Bayou Boogie (4-1) was good third last out and could notch first win in eight tries this year for trainer John Carlisle. #1 Silken Belle (7-2) only sports one win this year but has been second five times and looms a threat here. #5 Addy’s Love (9-2) already sports three wins this year and merits respect here.
RACE 2
2-3-4-5
In this two-turn maiden $12,500 claiming event, #2 Spritz of Sprite (7-5) appears to have ideal spot to graduate for trainer Jonathan Maldonado. #3 Speeding Ticket (9-2) has yet to hit the board in five tries for trainer Stacey Viands of Parisian Diva fame but should improve in this spot. #4 Sweet Piper (4-1) has been third three times in nine tries and looks destined for similar finish here. #5 Grandma Schnur (7-2) was second last out and could be poised to graduate in this spot.
- What we learned on Maryland Juvenile Stakes dayHere’s what we learned at Laurel Park for Saturday’s Maryland Juvenile and Maryland Juvenile Filly Stakes.
RACE 3
5-8-7-4
In this one-turn dash for $5,000 claimers, #5 Q’s Song (7-2) makes only third start this year for owner-breeder-trainer John McKee but looks poised to garner first win of the season. #8 Charm Weaver (2-1) gets favorable outside draw for trainer Ronney Brown and will likely assume the favorite’s role at post time. #7 Spunky Ali Cat (8-1) has been fourth in each of last two after win three back but gets outside draw and merits respect here. #4 Diamond Train (5-2) has only win in 12 tries this year but looms a factor in this spot.
RACE 4
3-1-5-6
In this two-turn event for $15,000 claimers, #3 Katalima (2-1) exits allowance company and won two back against claimers for trainer Stacey Viands. #1 Suzysellsseashells (6-5) also exits allowance company for trainer Anthony Farrior and was second two back at this level. #5 Miss Wave (7-2) has been consistent sort all season for McKee and merits respect here. #6 Gottalottacharm (15-1) could round out several gimmicks at a very generous price.
RACE 5
9-11-2-1
In this two-turn event for $5,000 claimers, #9 Nine Martinis (2-5) arrives off a victory at Delaware Park and looms the shortest priced favorite on the card for trainer Kieron Magee. #11 China Cat (3-1) has been first and second in each of last two local starts for Farrior and will give the top choice a challenge if she gets in off the also eligible list. #2 Upsy Daisy Do (15-1) sports consistent 2-4-1 slate from nine starts this year and merits respect here at a modest price. #1 Beyond Pretty (20-1) won last out but has been genuine hit-or-miss prospect all season.
RACE 6
6-2-5-1
In this one-turn allowance/optional $15,000 claiming dash for state-breds, #6 Be Be Bop (7-2) gets favorable outside draw in compact group for trainer Mike E Butts and gets nod for mild upset. #2 Black Candy (4-5) looms the odds-on choice for trainer Kevin Patterson. #5 Grand Fiber (15-1) has been second twice and third three times in eight winless outings for trainer Manolo Mangual but could forge mild surprise here. #1 He’s On The Line (5-1) won seasonal debut back in June and looks for repeat score for trainer Tim Grams.
- Maryland Juvenile: A mystery solved, decades laterSaturday’s Maryland Juvenile Stakes should be a fun race, but it’s unlikely to launch the careers of two Classic winners, like the 1982 edition did.
RACE 7
5-1-2-3
In this two-turn event for $15,000 state-bred claimers, #5 Remys Showtime (7-5) gives Grams best chance to prevail on the card and looms the solid choice here. #1 In the Gospel (10-1) sports solid 2-2-2 slate from 12 starts this year and merits respect with favorable inside draw. #2 Lufty’s Kisses (10-1) has been second twice and third twice in eight winless starts this year but could round out several gimmicks at a price. #3 Reata’s Castle (6-1) exits allowance company and could forge mild surprise here.
