Preakness wins by Pleasant Colony in 1981 and Hansel in 1991 helped bookend of golden age of friendly competition in Virginia breeding.

Hansel, the Virginia-bred who took the 1991 Preakness and Belmont Stakes, has been euthnanized as a result of the infirmities of old age.
“You give me 90 days, we could win a race at Charles Town,” says Frank Shipp, who managed ’91 Preakness winner Hansel’s career.
