Delaware Park picks and analysis: August 1, 2026

  • CARRYOVERS: Pick 5, $6,667
  • POST TIME: 12:20 P.M.
  • NUMBER OF RACES: 8

RACE 1: 5-2-4-8

#5 Bodine tries two turns on the dirt for the first time and should appreciate that; might offer value… #2 Up On the Rock showed little on the lawn in debut, but her breeding suggests dirt might move her up… #4 Mr Skinny’s two two-turn tries on dirt contend with these…

RACE 2: 2-8-3-6

#2 Magnolia Wind gets blinkers on for her first in the Sepulveda barn; last was better than it looks, as she regrouped in late stages to pass a couple despite troubled trip… #8 Dine and Dash has been facing better… #3 Infastuation made a grinding run in late stages last out, but her lack of early speed is a bit of a concern in a race where the pace won’t likely be fast…

RACE 3: 2-11-4-5

#2 Shine On Moon finally gets back to the turf after a pair of races came off; best would be tough… #11 Eachpeachpearplum galloped in latest and should be forwardly placed again but will have to navigate a trip from the outside… #4 Woodruff couldn’t quite get to the winner in latest after that runner slowed the early pace to a crawl and then dashed home; has run well in both turf tries…

RACE 4: 5-7-4-3

The improving #5 Yo Philly makes her second start of the season and second with Lasix; no match for likely favorite Dream Eagle in latest but overall is headed in the right direction… #7 Charmed Hour has a series of fast works under her belt in preparation for this spot and is by good win-early sire Blofeld; trainer McClellan has a strong record with first-out three-year-olds… #4 Dream Eagle will surely go favored again in this spot but has been the beaten chalk in two of three; perhaps the most likely winner, but she won’t offer any value…

RACE 5: 6-3-1-4

#6 Freedom Glider enters in good form and beat better last out before being DQed for bumping a foe; a repeat wins here… #3 Royal Renegade has been second versus similar in two straight, and it feels like this is a horse that might appreciate turf not playing quite as hard and fast as Penn’s has been… #1 Saratoga Cruiser caught a tough group two back in a race that’s produced three next-out winners, and in his latest, he didn’t run a terrible race despite running up a condition at odds of 58-1; better spot here…

RACE 6: 6-4-1-7

#6 Couches Burning looks like speed of the speed (and is outside others with early foot for good measure) and drops into a good spot… #4 Sugar On Fire really ran a good race last out in his first in four months, chasing the even-money favorite while well clear of the rest at long odds… #1 Eyes On the Ground ran credibly against better in latest and has mostly kept better company…

RACE 7: 6-3-5-4

#6 Picture This has won his last two on turf, beating a couple of today’s key rivals in the process, and makes his third start off the bench… #3 Derbyness is in career-best form, though the switch to turf is a bit of a question mark as it’s nearly three years since he tried the weeds; if he brings his main-track form to the lawn, he’ll be tough… #5 Sam Stormy won a second-level allowance last out but hasn’t raced in four months, and note that he finished behind Picture This when they saw each other last September…

RACE 8: 6-4-7-9

#6 All I Do was willing in latest after a troubled beginning and may not have been on the best part of the course; can step forward in second off the bench… #4 Sweet and Feisty has her moments… #7 The Great Maybe is a money-burner, having lost at 4-5 and 3-5 in her last two, but finds her lowest level to date…
