Mid-Atlantic tracks announce cancellations

“Debby isn’t done with us yet,” read the headline on weather.com, and horseracing knows that’s true.

With the remnants of Hurricane Debby bearing down on the Mid-Atlantic region, Colonial Downs already had shifted its weekend cards to Sunday – the former Saturday cardMonday (which had been Thursday), and Tuesday.

On Friday, three additional tracks announced cancellations. Charles Town, Delaware Park, and Laurel Park all announced Thursday morning they would cancel scheduled cards.

Charles Town announced it would not race Thursday evening, August 8, with the hurricane’s remnants expected to arrive in the evening.

“A decision on the status of Friday’s card will be made Friday morning,” the track added in a press release.

Delaware and Laurel both will cancel their Friday cards. Both tracks informed horsemen via text message that they would spike their August 9 cards, and both also said there would be no training Friday morning, with that decision in Maryland applying to both Laurel and Pimlico.

Delaware is running Thursday, August 8, and will be back in action, if all goes to plan, Saturday, August 10. Post time is 12:30 p.m.

Laurel’s next day of live racing following the cancellation will also be August 10. Post time is 12:25 p.m.
