The surprises were relatively few in early Kentucky Derby wagering, as many of the major players took the action they were expected to. Morning line favorites Fierceness and Sierra Leone drifted up slightly in early action while others took unexpected action.

Perhaps the two biggest positive movers in early betting were Honor Marie and Forever Young. The latter, a Japanese-bred runner who prepped in Dubai and enters the Derby undefeated, was bet down from 10-1 to 7-1 in early action at the windows. The former was 20-1 on the morning line but had been bet down to 12-1 in early wagering action.

Relatively few runners were bet down from their morning lines in early wagering action. Those include Honor Marie, 12-1 off a 20-1 morning line; Forever Young, 7-1 off a 10-1 morning line; West Saratoga, 28-1 despite a 50-1 morning line. As of 7:30 Friday evening, the odds were:
