RACE NUMBERCONTENDERSCOMMENTS
Race 14-7-3-2It’s hard to get past the favorite in this maiden contest. #4 Brindisi (6-5) has been running competitively at the special weight level, and trainer John Servis has gradually been tinkering with him: he added blinkers two races back and the Lasix last time. Today’ll be this one’s first outing as a gelding… Interested to see #7 Sebaray (6-1) make his debut here. The Malibu Moon gelding is out of the very productive Colonial Affair mare Lady Melesi — several of this guy’s sibs have been stakes animals — and he’s been training reasonably well towards his debut, including a bullet half-mile Feb. 10. Trainer Marya Montoya has been scuffling so far this year but has had a solid record for years… #3 Showing Off (7-2) rallied nicely into third in his debut but faces two questions today: one is the stretchout from six furlongs to a mile and 70 yards, and the other is the move up from $25,000 maiden claiming to maiden special… #2 Outworknforakiss (8-1) made a big middle move to the lead last time before fading late against lesser…
Race 105-8-4-1There’s a bunch of speed signed on for this one-mile starter allowance, including the favorite, so let’s take a bit of a swing with a horse who has shown the ability to run on late. #5 Silver Edge (8-1) hasn’t run especially well so far in ’22, but both of his starts to date came on wet tracks, on which he is 0-for-5 in his career. He should get a fast track today, and if he can bounce back to his November-December form, he’ll have a big shot to run ’em down. He loves this one-mile trip… The morning line favorite here is #8 Exit Right (3-1), but you won’t get the morning line on him. He’s representing the leading trainer-rider combo of Jamie Ness and Ruben Silvera and enters with three straight easy victories, two at this level. Look for Silvera to be up close and outside early and aim for a stalk-and-pounce trip… #4 Double the Heart (5-1) ran big last out when stretching to two turns for the first time locally and should be involved early… #1 Kaden’s Courage (10-1) ran a respectable race to be fourth (though well-beaten) against better last out…
