A stunning upset took place at Monmouth Park, Parx Racing has a big weekend ahead, and the recipient of the 2019 Federico Tesio Award has been announced.

Here is the scoop on what the racing world has been talking about this week:

Maximum Security stunned in Pegasus Stakes

A shocking upset took place at Monmouth Park over the weekend, when 5-1 shot King for a Day took down the heavily favored Maximum Security in the Pegasus Stakes.

On the first Saturday in May, Maximum Security wired the field in the Kentucky Derby only to be disqualified and placed 17th for causing interference by cutting into War of Will’s path during the race. The Pegasus Stakes on June 16 was the first start back for the bay son of New Year’s Day, but after stumbling at the start and being hounded by King for a Day for every stride, Maximum Security had to settle for second at odds of 1-20.

Owned by Red Oak Stable and trained by Todd Pletcher, King for a Day won the 1 1/16-mile test by 1 ¾ lengths with jockey Joe Bravo in the saddle. King for a Day completed the race in a final time of 1:42.59 over the fast track, with the bay son of Uncle Mo returning $13.80 to his backers.

King for a Day’s victory in the Pegasus Stakes has now boosted his record to three wins in five starts and has pushed his current career earnings to $210,550.

Turning for Home Day on tap at Parx Racing

Parx Racing is playing host to a special event this Saturday, June 22, as it will be “Turning for Home Day” at the track. Turning for Home is a non-profit organization that has helped rescue and rehome thousands of retired racehorses.

On Saturday, graduates of the program will be honored along with their new owners. Adoptable horses in the program will also be recognized, along with many other contributors who support the cause.

In addition to the celebration of the wonderful work that Turning for Home does, Parx will also feature an exciting race card equipped with three stakes events, including the $100,000 Crowd Pleaser Stakes and the $100,000 Power by Far Stakes for Pennsylvania-breds.
