Staff Reports

The second annual Maryland Pride Day takes place Saturday, August 20 at Laurel Park!

The day features two $75,000 stakes for Maryland-breds, the Jameela (for fillies and mares) and the Mister Diz, both at six furlongs on the turf.  The key questions posed by the races…

  1. Can the great Ben’s Cat, winner of over $2.6 million, win the Mister Diz for the seventh consecutive time?  Only one other horse in history has won the same stake seven straight times, so it’s a big challenge to see if Ben is up to the task.
  2. Can defending champ Monster Sleeping win her second consecutive running of the Jameela?  She’s been in the top three of this race three straight years, got the money last year, and is favored here.

Join us as host Frank Vespe and legendary former Colonial Downs on-air handicapper Derby Bill Watson discuss those two races and chat about Saratoga’s two Saturday Grade 1 races!
