From a Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races release

A pair of West Virginia-bred stakes that were to be run in August at Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races have been moved and will now be run on the track’s Race for the Ribbon card on September 17.

The $50,000 Sadie Hawkins for fillies and mares going 7 furlongs was originally slated for August 13, while the $50,000 Frank Gall Memorial for horses three-years-old and upward – also to be run at 7 furlongs – was scheduled for August 20.  Had the Sadie Hawkins and Frank Gall remained in their original spots on the calendar, they would have followed, by one and two weeks respectively, a pair of new West Virginia-bred stakes Mountaineer Park announced earlier this year would be run on their August 6 West Virginia Derby program.

Despite being moved on the calendar, the Frank Gall Memorial will continue to serve as a Win & You’re In race for the West Virginia Breeders Classic while the Sadie Hawkins will serve the same function for the West Virginia Breeders Classic Distaff. West Virginia Breeders Classics XXX is scheduled for October 8.

With the movement of the two West Virginia-bred stakes, the Race for the Ribbon card on September 17 will now see 8 stakes worth $800,000 contested, highlighted by the $350,000 Charles Town Oaks (G3) and 5 stakes for West Virginia-breds.
