PENN NATIONAL: IT’S ELEMENTARY TAKES OVERLAND ROUTE TO SECOND STRAIGHT

It wasn’t the easiest trip ever, but when all was said and done, it was good enough to give It’s Elementary her second consecutive victory in just the third start of her career.

Sent off as the 1.70-1 favorite, the four-year-old daughter of Afleet Alex now sports a record of 3-2-0-0, with earnings of $31,260.

It’s Elementary and jockey Chuck Lopez found themselves buried inside behind a wall of horses rounding the turn, in sixth place after the field covered three-quarters of a mile in 1:14.70.  But Lopez was able to steer her to the widest spot of all, five wide entering the lane, and she wore down Forever Famous to win by 1 1/2 lengths in 1:46 flat.

Bred in Kentucky by Mr. and Mrs. Roy Jackson, It’s Elementary didn’t reach the racetrack until January of this year, when she ran sixth in a maiden race at Gulfstream Park.  She broke her maiden next out, against maiden claiming rivals and was subsequently sold privately to Travis and Eddie Racing Stable.  She’s trained by Thomas Morley.

CHARLES TOWN: WATERSIDE DREAM WINS AGAIN IN SEASONAL DEBUT

Waterside Dream had a productive three-year-old campaign last year, winning twice and placing in her two other starts for trainer Jeff Runco.

Looks like she’s up to her old tricks again.

Making her four-year-old debut, the Maryland-bred daughter of Great Notion posted a narrow, front-running score to take a never-won-three allowance last night at Charles Town.  Running time for seven furlongs was 1:26.65.

Waterside Dream took the lead early in the race, leading the field through a half-mile in 47.89 seconds.  But her rivals ratcheted up the pressure at the three-eighths.  She kicked two clear entering the lane, disposing at last of Settle ‘n Speight, only to be confronted by late-running rivals Slipper Still Fits and Callipepla, holding off the former by just a nose for the win.

Waterside Dream, bred by owner Linda Zang, now has a record of 5-3-1-1 and earnings of $53,240.
