Mid-Atlantic three stars: November 2, 2026
Plenty of racing action took place throughout the Mid-Atlantic this past week.
Here’s a look at the “three stars” of each track:
REGION’S BEST

FIRST STAR: CRYSTAL VEIL. This West Virginia-bred 2-year-old filly continued her impressive freshman campaign on Saturday at Charles Town when she won the James and Eleanor Casey Memorial Stakes by two lengths. Off a pair of stakes wins earlier in the meet, she went off as the 2-5 favorite in the four-horse field. She was hustled to the front from the outside draw under Jeiron Barbosa and cleared to the rail and the lead by the time she hit the first turn. Second choice On a Pedestal made her move after the leader up the backstretch, but Crystal Veil shook her off and held on for the win, with On a Pedestal second or third behind Crystal Veil for the third time in her career. After a sixth-place finish on debut, Crystal Veil has won four in a row, including the John McKee Memorial Stakes and the Triple Crown Nutrition Breeders’ Classic. She was bred by James Miller, who co-owns her with Fuzzy Whiz LLC, and is trained by Anthony Farrior.
SECOND STAR: MORE THAN GRACE. The featured event at Parx on Monday was a second-level allowance sprint for fillies and mares at 6 1/2 furlongs. More Than Grace extended her winning streak to eight in a row with a gate-to-wire 4 3/4-length victory. The 3-10 favorite battled for the early lead with second choice Volleyballprincess, racing through an opening quarter-mile of 22.08 and a first half-mile in 44.65. At the top of the stretch, More Than Grace shook off her dueling partner and drew away, Though Missy Sixtysix cut into the margin a bit, More Than Grace had more than enough left to hold on. This Keystone State-bred ran the distance in 1:17.45 for owner Just in Time Racing LLC, trainer Michael Pino, and rider Mychel Sanchez.
THIRD STAR: EDY’S FLAME. On Wednesday, Charles Town hosted an open allowance sprint for West Virginia-bred fillies and mares at seven furlongs. Petty Perfect and Edy’s Flame dominated the betting, with both of them going off at 4-5. The latter prevailed by 1 1/4 lengths after getting a great stalking trip off an early duel. Petty Perfect engaged in battle with longshot Lil Miss Honkytonk, with Edy’s Flame 1 1/2 lengths behind them in third. She drew alongside the leaders at the top of the stretch, and kicked away from them late for the victory, with Petty Perfect holding on for second. The winner ran seven furlongs on a fast track in 1:26.64 for her fifth win on the year in 10 starts, with her only defeat in her last five races coming in the Cavada Breeders’ Classic last out. She was bred by trainer Anthony Farrior, is owned by Richard Burnsworth, and was ridden by Jeiron Barbosa.
