RACE 1: 9-8-6-7

Lower-level 2yo maiden claiming fillies square off… The only one to have shown anything at all in a race thus far is #9 Paris by Night, who was a pretty good third in her debut…

RACE 2: 5-6-1-4

Never-won-two fillies and mares go a mile, which will likely make #5 Flee happy; she was outfooted early last out going short but has run well around two turns and should be able to use her good early foot to best advantage in this pace-challenged group…

RACE 3: 5-8-2-7

Maiden optional claiming fillies and mares set to go 7 1/2 furlongs on turf (no, really: on turf!)… #5 Voluntary loomed and faded last out, finishing just behind #2 Firestreak, who makes her second start in a Bailon barn having a productive meet… #8 Blushing Princess tries turf for the first time for a Meyers barn that has a stellar record with first-time turfers…

RACE 4: 2-6-5-3

If you’re inclined to try to beat likely fave #6 Impressiveness, you have a bunch of choices… That runner has three straight 63-70 Beyer figs, which likely wins here, and is a three-time winner already, both positives; on the flip side, he seems to want more ground than six furlongs, and all three of those recent figs came going a mile… Give a look to the improving #2 Fayes Heart, a winner of two straight who brings rider Perez, just here for this mount…

RACE 5: 3-2-6-8

Middle Pick 5 starts here… #3 Shanghai Rose ran a perfectly credible race when fourth on debut, as show horse Martiniwithatwist came back to graduate next out, while winner Cha Cha Baby earned a 79 Beyer fig and then was sold for $460k; note that if you take the winner out, this one was just two lengths behind… #2 Set the Stage arrives for the Matz barn, which is having a good meet; bred to be any kind, with top sire Gun Runner on top and from the female family of champion Ashado… #6 Poulin is another well-bred sort, by top sire Nyquist and for trainer Mike Stidham (22% with debut 2yo at Delaware)…

RACE 6: 5-8-4-2

Feel like this race is more competitive than the morning line might suggest, but it’s still hard to get past #5 No Need to Ask, who’s kept better company and ran really well against some salty rivals in the Peach Blossom; question: will they send? #8 Cocoa Mills graduated at first asking, albeit via DQ, for the Matz barn; finished up nicely in that one, especially considering it was a debut and going two turns, and that result flattered when first-past-the-post runner moved up to MC 40k company and graduated next… Trainer Mac Robertson has had a couple of off-the-bench horses run well of late; this miss graduated to close her 2025 season, firing a.m. bullets towards her return here…

RACE 7: 6-2-4-5

#6 Shipman has won two straight and has plenty of early speed but last out stalked and pounced nicely, which might be the play with ultra-speedy #5 Ikigai also signed on; first in Simone barn, having a strong meet… #2 Guaio doesn’t win much, but often finds his way into the money; will be a bit outfooted early but should arrive for a piece… #4 Jackson Road likely will be well back early, as he was last time when he closed nicely but too late to threaten our top choice; more ground would really be preferred for him, but failing that, a melting-down pace would be what his Doc will try to order…

RACE 8: 4-6-11-13

#4 Silver Front ran a big one in latest, making the lead in upper stretch and finishing willingly but unable to fend off the Miguel Clement shipper; can improve in third off the bench and should offer value after going off at 24-1 last out… #6 Straight Arrow has run credibly in two recent turf tries, including three back when beaten just a couple lengths by next-out Punch Line winner Determined Kingdom, who’s banked almost a million dollars; should appreciate the class relief, though distance poses the question… #11 Rigel figures to go hunting the early lead after a front-running score against two-other-than foes (when in for the tag); makes first start since April and first in Hernandez barn, and his best would make him an awfully tough out here…

RACE 9: 1-3-5-2

#1 Dyna Soar didn’t run a bad race in latest and seems to prefer two turns versus the one-turn mile at CNL; may not be fast enough to make the lead but should save ground early and try to rev up a run… #3 Disco Rules ran great when just missing versus similar three back (and finishing ahead of Intrepid Mo), then caught multiple stakes winner Foxy Junior before being over her head in state-bred stake; best outings put her right there… #5 Intrepid Mo is another who seems to prefer two turns to one; bit of a layoff after a clunker in latest, though, but on the other hand, she’s been firing bullets in the morning, and that July 26 move was nearly a full second faster than any other runner…

RACE 10: 6-9-11-8

#6 Regal Rules was probably best last out but a mid-race steady did considerable damage to her winning chances; cleaner trip prevails today… #9 False Witness takes another big drop here and has flashed speed… #11 She’s a Canny Lass, the morning line favorite, has done her best work going farther…
