Delaware Park picks and analysis: May 20, 2026

  • CARRYOVERS: None
  • POST TIME: 12:30 P.M.
  • NUMBER OF RACES: 8

RACE 1: 1-3-6-5

#1 Mogalu arrives off a bit of a freshening after a couple of poor winter outings, but he’s not that far removed from races that win this, and against a field in which everyone has flaws, the possibility of some value entices… A bit tough to know what to make of #3 Town’s Warrior, other than anything like the 4-5 morning line would be something to avoid; hasn’t been quite the same horse since the break and then the claim, but the two in the new barn include one at a too-short sprint distance and one in which it was clear by upper stretch he would finish third and so was not asked for best… #6 Martini Martin wheels back on short rest (if he posts) after a good try against similar, but note that trainer Rodriguez is 0-for-12 bringing horses back on 1-10 days of rest…

RACE 2: 4-3-1-6

#4 Dissolute ran well last out, making a strong middle move to the lead before tiring in the late yards, and really, pretty much always runs well when not in over her head… #3 Bella Prima thrashed lesser last out but got away pretty easy on the front end, which may not be the case today… #1 Nansica returns to the track where two of her three career wins have come…

RACE 3: 2-1-5-4

#2 Awesome Pic has made it pretty clear that these days, seven furlongs is too far for her, and she emphasized that last out when gacking up a five-length lead in the final furlong; six furlongs is a different matter, though, and she owns five wins at the trip and beat similar two back… #1 Miguel’s Belle jumped up to beat $16,000 company last out in a strong effort, but note that she and our top choice have a common recent rival in Joke’s Up, who beat this one by almost eight lengths Apr. 8 after beating Awesome Pic by 3 1/2 Feb. 25; also of note: this runner is 0-for-10 in her career when leaving from the rail… #5 The Feisty One ran a good one last out after the Kravets claimback…

RACING NOTES

Longtime defending champ Jamie Ness raced out to the training lead last week, going 4-for-8… Kelly Deiter, Greg Compton, and Mike Gorham won twice each… Julio Hernandez and Martin Chuan each won three times to top the local riders, while Raul Mena and the comebacking Carol Cedeno won twice each…

RACE 4: 1-8-2-5

#1 God With Us might sit a good trip in a race light on early foot and has been competitive at about this level at TAM…The hunch play of the century? Possibly it’s God With Us and #8 Minister, whose last couple aren’t great but whose earlier form is just fine; shows a couple of works since latest and reunites with rider Chuan, who won on him late last year… #2 Guardian Prince ran poorly last out going 6 1/2 furlongs at CT and perhaps will appreciate a cutback and a more conventional one-turn sprint…

RACE 5: 1-7-6-2

This allowance contest projects to have a lively pace, which might set up nicely for #1 Sassafrassness, who breaks from the rail and could be in a good spot when the speed starts to back up… #7 Sina had a useful return to action after nearly eight months away when leading a long way in a restricted stake at Oaklawn before packing it in in the final furlong and gets Lasix on for the first time… The lightly raced #6 Candy Talking has run competitive races on both turf and dirt and finished third — ahead of Sina — last out…

RACE 6: 6-4-2-1

#6 Castagna had a streak of three straight starter allowance wins snapped last out when cooked as part of a very fast pace in latest but ought to be able to control this one from the jump… #4 Chelsea Wall throttled lesser last out and makes her third start after a freshening; like to see trainer Ness give this one a vote of confidence, first by running her twice for the waiver and now by bumping her into starter company to protect her… #2 Ariana Valentina has been in the money seven of eight at the trip, including three wins…

RACE 7: 1-6-5-4

#1 St. Jude makes his season bow for Ben Perkins and has made short work of his allowance conditions, winning four of his first nine; last out he was a trying third in the Grade 3 Elite Power behind Just Beat the Odds, who then ran second in a $2 million race in Saudi Arabia; should have a pace to run at, has fired fresh before, and has been working fast… #6 Spikezone has speed to burn and 12 wins at the trip; the Ness barn is 4-for-8 to start the meet, and Paco in the irons won’t hurt the cause, but he’ll have to avoid getting burned up by other speed… Closing sprinter #5 Bold Diversion could get the right trip with speed signed on…

RACE 8: 1-6-2-3

#1 Quahog Republic has had a bunch of tries to break his maiden, so you’ll want to get some value, but three back he caught an especially good group (three next-out winners), two back was on turf he didn’t much like, and last out he caught Railroad Inn, who earned a 73 Beyer fig while galloping; should be easier today… #6 Spinemjohnny may not have liked the bullring in latest, but his best contends… Not generally a good sign when someone pays $65,000 for a horse and then debuts them for $7,500, but it’s probably not a terrible idea to have #2 Bodine somewhere on the ticket; against this tepid group, if he can run a little, he can pick up at least a minor share…
