Mid-Atlantic three stars: April 6, 2026

Plenty of racing action took place throughout the Mid-Atlantic this past week.

Here’s a look at the “three stars” of each track:

REGION’S BEST

FIRST STAR: QUINT’S BREW. On Saturday at Laurel Park, Quint’s Brew earned his third stakes victory of the year in the seven-furlong Frank Whiteley Stakes. The 2-5 favorite battled for the early lead with archrival Blue Kingdom, who he had dueled with down the stretch in his Jennings Stakes and Not For Love Stakes victories. Under confident handling from Forest Boyce, Quint’s Brew pulled away from Blue Kingdom on the turn and drew off to win by four lengths, covering three-quarters of a mile in 1:23.19. The 5-year-old gelding, bred by Paul Berube and Karen Linnell, who co-own with Heather Hunter, is now 7-for-12 lifetime, having never finished worse than third, with career earnings of $561,240.

SECOND STAR: WILD VINE. Two races later, a field of seven went one full lap around Laurel’s 1 1/8-mile oval in the Native Dancer Stakes. The winter meet’s leading trainer and jockey, Jamie Ness and Yedsit Hazlewood, teamed up to win with Wild Vine. Sent off as the 6-5 favorite, Wild Vine enjoyed a great trip, rating in fourth while longshots Late Nite Call and Over and Ollie set the early pace. When those two faded, Wild Vine made a strong move to the lead on the final turn and kicked away, opening up in the stretch for a commanding 6 1/2-length win. He ran the distance in 1:51.42, with Warp Nine second and Xcellent Start third. Ness’s Jagger Inc. co-owns the winner with Super C Racing Inc.

THIRD STAR: WONDROUS. Earlier on Saturday, Wondrous made her stakes debut a winning one, capturing the six-furlong Primonetta Stakes over three other fillies and mares by 4 3/4 lengths. Like Wild Vine, she enjoyed a great setup, as Dwelling Legacy and Twirling Beauty battled each other for the early lead. Angel Cruz asked his filly for run in the three-path on the turn, and she responded in kind, sweeping to the front and kicking away to win for the second time in five career starts. This Godolphin homebred filly is trained by Brendan Walsh.

LAUREL PARK

FIRST STAR: QUINT’S BREW. After a few close finishes earlier in the year, he ran his best race in a while in the Frank Whiteley.

SECOND STAR: WILD VINE. Dominated the Native Dancer as much the best.

THIRD STAR: WONDROUS. The best may be yet to come for this promising filly.

CHARLES TOWN

FIRST STAR: PLAY IT LOUD. Swooped the group to capture an open allowance sprint on Saturday over favorites Omar Comin and Hammer.

SECOND STAR: KOSHER COWBOY. Led all the way in a second-level allowance dash earlier on the Saturday program to make his 2026 debut a winning one; he’s now 13-for-29 lifetime.

THIRD STAR: ITSAMONSTAMASH. Set the pace and held on to win a second-level allowance sprint on Saturday for her first win of the season.

PARX RACING

FIRST STAR: MARY Q. Rallied wide in the stretch and pulled clear to win a second-level allowance route on Wednesday.

SECOND STAR: COCKTAIL HUMOR. Came from just off the pace to win a first-level allowance sprint on Tuesday for her third win in her last four starts.

THIRD STAR: PRESENCEISAPRESENT. This promising Pennsylvania-bred filly overcame a rough start to win a first-level allowance sprint on Tuesday.
