Mid-Atlantic three stars: February 16, 2026

Plenty of racing action took place throughout the Mid-Atlantic this past week.

Here’s a look at the “three stars” of each track:

REGION’S BEST

Point Dume

FIRST STAR: POINT DUME. This 5-year-old gelding continued his hot streak in Saturday’s co-feature at Laurel Park, the General George Stakes. Coming in off an exciting win in the Fire Plug Handicap, he went off as the 5-1 third choice in the five-horse field. Last year’s winner, Quint’s Brew, was the 3-5 favorite, while reigning Maryland Million Sprint champion Slam Notion was the 3-1 second choice. However, Point Dume kept them all at bay. He broke well, made the early lead, and kept on going to win by 3 3/4 lengths. Blue Kingdom rallied up the inside for second, while Quint’s Brew, who chased the early leader, held on to third. Point Dume has now won 10 times in 30 starts, including four times in his last six races, and has earned $551,900 lifetime. He’s owned by Bush Racing Stable, trained by Tim Kreiser, and ridden by Angel Cruz.

SECOND STAR: PASSAGE EAST. The other co-featured stakes race at Laurel on Saturday, the Barbara Fritchie Stakes, was a thriller. Passage East pulled off a mild 5-1 upset by a nose. 3-10 favorite Takethemoneyhoney pressed early leader Dry Powder, while Passage East drafted a few lengths off the leaders. Takethemoneyhoney looked ready to take control and open up at the top of the stretch as she disposed of Dry Powder, but Passage East made her move at the same time and wouldn’t go down without a fight. The two dueled down the stretch, with Takethemoneyhoney determined on the rail and Passage East unwavering on her outside. Passage East ultimately got her nose down on the wire first for her eighth win in her last nine starts. Sheldon Russell was up for owner Larry Rabold and trainer Hugh McMahon.

THIRD STAR: ATLANTIS QUEEN. The first stakes of the day at Laurel on Saturday, the Nellie Morse Stakes, went to Atlantis Queen in another mild upset. Breaking from post position six, she raced in the center of the track off the pace in the early stages, while Late Nite Call set the early pace and 6-5 favorite Complexity Jane drafted just of of her in second. Despite her wide trip, Atlantis Queen still had plenty of energy left as they hit the final turn, and she pulled away to win by 4 1/4 lengths. Sultry Lass rallied from off the pace for second, while Late Nite Call held third over Complexity Jane. She’s now 3-for-16 lifetime, including two wins in her last three races, with earnings of $158,755. Pocket 3’s Racing is the winning owner, Gary Capuano the winning trainer, and Yedsit Hazlewood the winning rider.

LAUREL PARK

FIRST STAR: POINT DUME. He’s in career-best form and looks poised for a big year.

SECOND STAR: PASSAGE EAST. She called on all her heart and upset Takethemoneyhoney in the Fritchie.

THIRD STAR: ATLANTIS QUEEN. An overland trip couldn’t slow her down in the Nellie Morse Stakes.

CHARLES TOWN

FIRST STAR: FALCON BLUE. This Charles Town-loving gelding pressed the pace and kicked away to win an open allowance sprint on Friday.

SECOND STAR: PAY ZONE. One race earlier on Friday, he opened up a long early lead and never looked back to win a first-level sprint as the 1-5 favorite.

THIRD STAR: TRUTH AND JUSTICE. Made her 3-year-old debut a winning one in a West Virginia-bred allowance sprint on Saturday.

PARX RACING

FIRST STAR: PACHELBEL. Rallied from far off the pace in the center of the track to win an open allowance sprint for fillies and mares on Tuesday in a 17-1 upset.

SECOND STAR: MYCHEL SANCHEZ. Rode four winners on the Tuesday program; he’s the leading rider at the meet so far with 19 wins, more than double the second-best total.

THIRD STAR: NO EASY DAYS. Continued his hot streak with a second-level sprint win on Wednesday; the 6-year-old gelding has alternated firsts and seconds in his last eight starts.
