Mid-Atlantic three stars: January 26, 2026
Plenty of racing action took place throughout the Mid-Atlantic this past week.
Here’s a look at the “three stars” of each track:
REGION’S BEST

FIRST STAR: LONESOME ROAD. Going into Friday’s feature at Laurel Park, expectations were high for Lonesome Road. Off a dazzling performance in his maiden victory, he went off at 3-5 in a first-level, one-mile allowance. He lived up to all the hype and then some, winning by 6 1/4 lengths under another hand ride. He set the early pace, then opened up on the turn under confident handling from Mychel Sanchez, who looked back numerous times without going to the whip. Despite not being asked to run, Lonesome Road still ran the mile in 1:37.72, good for a Beyer figure of 98. The half-brother to multiple grade 1 winner Mindframe is now 2-for-2 lifetime on dirt with career earnings of $76,300. Bred by the late Larry Johnson in Virginia and owned by his estate, he’s trained by Mike Trombetta.
SECOND STAR: MISS HARRIETT. Charles Town moved up first post on Friday by two hours due to the very cold weather. The action in the feature, an open allowance for fillies and mares at seven furlongs, remained very hot. Local Overnight Pow Wow went off as the 3-5 choice in the six-horse field, but Maryland invader Miss Harriett got the job done by a head. Overnight Pow Wow set the early pace with Miss Harriett in close pursuit. As they turned for home, Overnight Pow Wow maintained the lead, but Arnaldo Bocachica soon began to ask Miss Harriett for her best, and Juba’s Parade and Serenade Me were also making moves from off the pace. Overnight Pow Wow hung in tenaciously, but Miss Harriett had more to give, and got up in the last few strides to win by a a head, with Serenade Me rallying up the rail for second. The winning mare improved her career record to 6-1-3 in 15 lifetime starts with earnings of $312,110, with this being her first victory since September 2024 at Laurel. She was bred by owner David Baxter’s Narrow Leaf Farm and is trained by Brandon MacFarlane.
THIRD STAR: FEAR NOTHING. Later on Laurel’s Friday card, Maryland-restricted older males traveled six furlongs in a competitive first-level contest. Fear Nothing took advantage of a great stalking trip to win by two lengths. He sat off the early pace set by second choice Guaponess, then moved up the inside in the stretch when asked for run by Jose Vargas. He kicked past Guaponess in the last sixteenth and won going away for hsi fourth victory in his last six starts. Hammy Smith is the winning owner and trainer.
