Mid-Atlantic three stars: October 27, 2025
Plenty of racing action took place throughout the Mid-Atlantic this past week.
Here’s a look at the “three stars” of each track:
REGION’S BEST

FIRST STAR: POINT DUME. Already a four-time winner on the year, Point Dume enhanced his resume further on Tuesday at Parx, when he captured the M. P. Ballezzi Appreciation Mile by 1 ½ lengths. Breaking from post position five, he pressed favored Bernie’s Mitts around the first turn, then moved to the front at the ⅜ pole and took command halfway up the backstretch. He maintained his advantage in the stretch, hitting the wire in 1:37.98 with Irish Cork in second and Adero third. He improved to 5-for-11 on the year and 8-for-26 lifetime. As noted above, it was his first stakes win, though he was previously stakes-placed in last year’s Miracle Wood Stakes at Laurel Park. He’s owned by Bush Racing Stable, trained by Tim Krieser, and ridden by Angel Cruz.
SECOND STAR: SILHOUTTE COVE. Parx hosted a pair of stakes races for Pennsylvania-bred and Pennsylvania-sired horses on Wednesday. The Jump Start Stakes, for older males at seven furlongs, went to Silhoutte Cove in a 13-1 upset. He drafted between horses in fourth place in the early stages, then began to advance after early leader Dropline on the turn. In the stretch, he easily went by Dropline, fended off the late challenge of Come Prima from his inside, and hit the wire clear by 1 ¾ lengths. He ran the distance on a fast track in 1:23.76. He’s now 3-for-5 lifetime, and hasn’t missed the board so far in his brief but successful career. Frankie Pennington was up for owner Doug Gibson and trainer Bernie Houghton.
THIRD STAR: NATURE’S CANDY. One race prior, Pennsylvanian fillies and mares took center stage in the Disco Chick Stakes. Nature’s Candy lived up to her 7-10 expectations with a 2 ½-length victory. She pressed early leader Simply Stated, hit the front at the top of the stretch, and fended off Pachelbel’s challenge to pull away in the final length. She’s been in fantastic form all year long, winning five times in eight races and finishing second in another while earning almost $200,000. She ran seven furlongs in 1:26.18 with Andy Hernandez up for owner Freedom Racing LLC and trainer Hugo Padilla.
LAUREL PARK
FIRST STAR: WARP NINE. Parx shipper drew off impressively to win a second-level dirt route by four lengths on Friday.
SECOND STAR: I’M A CUTIE PIE. Got up in the last few strides to win a second-level sprint for fillies and mares on Saturday.
THIRD STAR: JACK’S LEGEND. In his third start since the Maryland Million Turf, he got the job done in a second-level grass route on Friday for his third career win.
CHARLES TOWN
FIRST STAR: JUAN BELISARIO. Rode four winners on Thursday as part of an eight-win week.
SECOND STAR: THEWITCHISGONE. Led all the way in a West Virginia-bred dash for fillies and mares on Friday for her third win of the season.
THIRD STAR: RAY OF SUNSHINE. Held on to win a West Virginia-bred sprint as the even-money favorite on Saturday.
PARX RACING
FIRST STAR: POINT DUME. Drew off to win the M. P. Ballezzi Appreciation Mile as much the best.
SECOND STAR: SILHOUETTE COVE. Worked out a trip and pulled off the surprise victory.
THIRD STAR: NATURE’S CANDY. Continued her strong season and finally got in the winner’s circle in stakes company.
