RACE 1: MAIDEN CLAIMING $5,000, 3-6-YEAR-OLDS, 4 FURLONGS

  1. #1 – Tax and Tags (4-5): Battled for the lead and held a respectable fourth in his last dirt start, which came on the Black-Eyed Susan undercard.
  2. #6 – Bold Statement (7-2): Overcame a poor break to get third in his most recent outing.
  3. #5 – Adoncia (10-1): She’ll sit off the pace and hang around for a share at a good price.

RACE 2: ALLOWANCE (N/W1X), 3-YEAR-OLDS AND UP, MD-RESTRICTED, 6 1/2 FURLONGS

  1. #5 – Mister Roscoe (2-1): Hasn’t won in a while, but his speed and pace figures are consistently strong.
  2. #3 – Easy Action (8-5): Has early speed and goes first off the claim for Irving Rodriguez, who hits at 31% with that angle.
  3. #1 – Railroad Inn (9-2): Makes his first start since May 3, when he broke his maiden in a dominant 13-length victory.

RACE 3: MAIDEN SPECIAL WEIGHT, 2-YEAR-OLDS, 6 1/2 FURLONGS

  1. #2 – Elite Warrior (7-2): The most interesting of the three first-time starters in the field; his workouts for Justin Nixon have only gotten better, and he’s from a win-early family.
  2. #4 – Island Bandit (9-2): Has plenty of experience, but has burned a lot of money in his five-race career.
  3. #5 – Mighty Moo (8-1): Didn’t fire after a wide trip on debut, but can easily improve with that race under his belt.

RACE 4: CLAIMING $8,000, 3-6 YEAR-OLDS AND UP, FILLIES AND MARES, 4 FURLONGS

  1. #2 – Mabee Luckynwild (5-1): Got pressed on the pace throughout last out, but still held on to win in a gutsy performance.
  2. #5 – Compass Fire (3-1): Has hit the board in three of her last four starts against similar at Delaware Park.
  3. #3 – Lady Charlotte (7-2): Received time off after a flat effort on July 6; her usual performance and early speed would make her a contender.

RACE 5: MAIDEN CLAIMING $25,000, 3-YEAR-OLDS AND UP, FILLIES AND MARES, 6 1/2 FURLONGS

  1. #5 – Curly Divining (7-2): Improved sharply at second asking with a pace-pressing second at Delaware.
  2. #3 – Icecreamforeveryone (1-1): Repole-owned filly makes her first local start for Brittany Russell; these types tend to either win by a lot or lose by a lot, and almost always at a painfully short price.
  3. #1 – Hurricane Lynn (6-1): Faded after a wide trip in her last dirt start, but ran a big second two dirt racs ago.

RACE 6: MAIDEN CLAIMING $25,000, 2-YEAR-OLDS, FILLIES, 4 FURLONGS

  1. #2 – Pelican Pier (5-2): Drops in for a tag and adds blinkers for the first time.
  2. #7 – Paris by Night (4-1): Will blast to the lead from her outside draw; hopefully her early hustle doesn’t take too much out of her.
  3. #1 – Befuddled (6-1): Ran a strong third at second asking last out; Anthony Farrior trainee now gets to team up with Arnaldo Bocachica.

RACE 7: ALLOWANCE (OPEN), 3-YEAR-OLDS AND UP, FILLIES AND MARES, 4 FURLONGS

  1. #3 – Mudslide (7-2): Ran a gutsy third at 26-1 in the Shine Again Stakes last out, leading most of the way and hanging tough in a blanket finish.
  2. #5 – Bella Italia (9-2): Appears to be at her best on a small track, as evidenced by her 3-for-5 career record at Charles Town.
  3. #1 – Great Andrei (3-1): Looks poised to get a great trip stalking the pace on the rail.

RACE 8: MAIDEN CLAIMING $5,000, 3-6-YEAR-OLDS, 6 1/2 FURLONGS

  1. #2 – Meredithslightning (9-2): Rerallied and just missed against similar on this track last Saturday.
  2. #3 – Charge It Baby (3-1): While he was well-beaten in both starts so far, he at least showed some improvement last out and now takes a big drop in class.
  3. #5 – Furious George (2-1): Any of his recent races would contend with these, but his 0-for-20 career record is cause for pause.
