Renegade favored in early Preakness future wagering
Local hopeful Taj Mahal currently 28-1
Renegade is the 6-1 favorite in the early wagering of the Preakness Future Wager as of Thursday morning. The Todd Pletcher trainee was the morning line favorite in the Preakness Future Wager and is also the current wagering favorite for the Kentucky Derby with odds of 5-1.
The Preakness Future Wager continues until 6:00 p.m. Saturday – shortly before the Kentucky Derby goes off. It includes 39 horses plus “all other three-year-olds.” At press time, there was less than $61,000 in the pool, so there could still be significant movement in the odds.

Three other horses are also 12-1 or less in early wagering. These are Further Ado, easy winner of the Blue Grass Stakes and 10-1; Florida Derby winner Commandment, who is 12-1; and Crude Velocity, the Bob Baffert trainee who is 2-for-2 in his young career and is also 12-1.
Other horses taking early action include Chief Wallabee (14-1), Emerging Market (15-1), So Happy (16-1), and The Puma (20-1).
Two horses currently on the grounds at Laurel Park are pointed to the Preakness. Local hopeful Taj Mahal, winner of the Federico Tesio Stakes, is currently 28-1, and Grade 3 Lexington Stakes runner-up The Hell We Did is 99-1.
The field of “all other three-year-olds” is currently 19-1.
