Charles Town picks and analysis: May 3, 2025
Picks and analysis for this evening’s card from Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races:
- DATE: May 3, 2025
- RACES ON CARD: 8
- CARRYOVERS: Jackpot Pick 6, $10,740
RACE 1
2. Favorite Road | Drops into claiming company for first time in second off the bench; trainer Joy is 7-for-29 on the move into maiden claiming company |
4. Talented Lino | Disastrous trip in latest and should benefit from easier group |
3. Rip N Roll | Other than the two-back outing, this one has no great advantage over others, but odds may not reflect that |
RACE 2
5. Gold Fiber | Has won last four when in against claiming company; trainer Joy 21% first off the claim, and this speedster is drawn outside main speed rival |
6. Imperial King | Needs bounceback after a couple off-color outings; outside draw a plus for his style |
3. Advance Cash | Has kept better company, but more distance preferred |
RACE 3
6. Change Your Luck | Last was putrid versus better, but this guy should control it up front |
4. Bubba Grump | Decent recent form darkened by latest |
7. Rockin the Palace | Should be running at the end |
RACE 4
5. Kristinachrysalis | Galloped when last spotted at this level, and strong recent form, plus tactical versatility, make her tough to stand against |
4. Paynt Your Way | First off the bench after poor outing; speedster might try to steal it up front |
3. Controlled Temper | Consistent sort would need some stuff to happen to get the money here |
RACE 5
6. Bourbon and Ice | DIsmal outing in latest but prior form fits nicely |
2. Besotted | Never involved at all last out but had been in good form prior, including three-race heater; late-running sort reunites with Radcliffe, who won twice on him |
3. Veselsky | Consistent figs but hasn’t finished in the money in eight straight |
RACE 6
5. Lawyer Up Riley | Probably best in latest but foiled by troubled trip; galloped out ahead of top pair |
2. Stormproof | Big fig when graduating versus KEE maiden claimers |
6. Omo Dada | Flashed talent when graduating by 12 lengths, but it’s nearly two years since he’s run; trainer Runco is 2-for-7 with horses back off 1 year-plus layoffs |
RACE 7
2. Shewonttalktome | Beat similar three back and already has three races under her belt this season; retains good gate rider Acosta in a race very light on early speed |
3. Lona Lee | Clearly the most talented of this group, but this’ll be her first start since Nov. 1; trainer Petty wins at a 12% clip off similar layoffs, and at projected short odds, this might be the place to stand against |
6. No Denying Denis | Might appreciate seeing state-bred allowance foes for the first time in nearly two years; all subsequent starts have been in stakes or versus open allowance runners; return to best puts her in the mix |
RACE 8
1. Downtown Man | Interesting move off ok debut outing versus claiming rivals at LRL; bit of traffic and rallied well enough to be clear for place behind runaway winner, who moved up to Clm 20k to score versus winners next |
8. Nothing But Heir | Somewhat challenging trip did this one in; second off the bench and a cleaner trip would likely get it done |
7. No Brake Needed | Second versus similar in latest, but winless through 16 tries makes him hard to endorse on top |
