Maryland Horse Foundation receives TCA grant

The Maryland Horse Foundation issued the following release September 20:

The Maryland Horse Foundation (MHF) is honored to be named a 2023 Thoroughbred Charities of America (TCA) grant recipient. The grant will be focused on the Foundation’s educational outreach efforts including the Maryland Thoroughbred Career Program (MTCP).

Over the years many of the Maryland Thoroughbred Career Program fellows have found jobs in their areas of interest in several states. This program was designed to offer young people an in-depth exposure to the Thoroughbred industry from the breeding shed to the racing office.

“I believe that it is important to for these young folks to see that there are various opportunities that will allow them to embrace their passion for horses,” says Cricket Goodall, executive director of the Maryland Horse Foundation, “while using their talents to make a career in the equine industry. That is the goal of this program.”

The MHF has also created a Work Experience Program, which allows qualified applicants to design a custom internship experience that will benefit their long-term career goals. And with the recent addition of the Howard & Sondra Bender Educational Series, produced in partnership with the University of Maryland Extension, the MHF intends to provide education and information that appeals to many levels of interest with talks at the new Maryland Horse Library & Education Center. These sessions are recorded and available on the Maryland Thoroughbred YouTube channel.
