Ninetyprcentmaddie stars in Parx stakes; 3 on tap today

Parx Racing kicked off its 2023 stakes schedule Monday with four $75,000 contests. On a good day for PA-breds – they won three of the four stakes, no runner had a better day than Ninetyprcentmaddie.

Trained by Butch Reid, the Weigelia colt, sent off at 1-5, took the early lead, controlled the fractions, and drew away smartly to win the City of Brotherly Love Stakes by 9 ¾ lengths. Paco Lopez was in the irons.

Ninetyprcentmaddie got the distance of a mile and 70 yards in 1:44.57. A homebred for LC Racing LLC, Ninetyprcentmaddie now has four wins from seven starts with earnings past $200,000. The City of Brotherly Love was his second stakes win, coming one race after he was eased in a last-place finish in the Grade 3 Withers.

Ninetyprcentmaddie was one of two 1-5 shots Reid sent out in the afternoon’s stakes. The other, Girl Trouble in the Main Line Stakes for fillies, encountered some traffic trouble and was forced to settle for third, 2 ½ lengths behind winner Social Success, who led all the way en route to winning in 1:46.76 for a mile and 70 yards.

Social Success, a homebred for Shirley Lojeski, has certainly enjoyed her sophomore campaign thus far. The Main Line victory was her third consecutive triumph this year. Frankie Pennington was up for trainer Bruce Kravets.

Parx also has three stakes for older runners on tap today, and Reid might again send out the strongest favorite of the group. Disco Ebo, a four-year-old PA-bred daughter of Weigelia, has been a stakes winner at two and three and arrives in the 6 ½-furlong Penn’s Landing Stakes with back-to-back allowance wins over the strip. Pennington will ride.
