Plenty of racing action took place throughout the Mid-Atlantic this past week.

Here’s a look at the “three stars” of each track:

FIRST STAR: JUBAWITHATWIST. West Virginia Breeders’ Classic night, held at Charles Town on Saturday, was headlined by the Sam Huff Breeders’ Classic, featuring some of the top West Virginia-bred older males going 1 1/8 miles. Teachintherelease, who won this race by 14 lengths last year, was the 7-10 favorite in the ten-horse field, while Jubawithatwist was the 5-2 second choice. Jubawithatwist sat second in the early stages, allowing Teachintherelease to set the early pace. On the far turn, Antonio Lopez asked Jubawithatwist for run, and he made his move after Teachintherelease. The favorite had no response, and Jubawithatwist left them in the dust, hitting the wire ten lengths in front. Teachintherelease held second, while Gimmethatsugar finished third. The winner’s now won four times in eight starts this year, and is 12-for-23 lifetime with earnings of $629,185. He ran the distance in 1:52.53 for owner/trainer Kristy Petty.

SECOND STAR: ZIP START. On paper, Overnight Pow Wow looked like a deserving 2-5 favorite in the Cavada Breeders’ Classic earlier on the Saturday card at Charles Town. She opened up after getting early pace pressure and looked like she would deliver on her promise. However, Zip Start had other ideas. She drafted towards the back of the pack in the early stages, then moved in the four-path and kicked away from the rest. Overnight Pow Wow had no answer and faded to fourth, while Zip Start won by three lengths as the 9-2 second choice. That’s her first win of the year, her first since last year’s West Virginia Lottery Breeders’ Classic, and her sixth career victory, four of which have come in stakes company. Arnaldo Bocachica was up for trainer Jeff Runco’s Coleswood Farm Inc. and co-owner David Raim.

THIRD STAR: RYAN’S RUN. Third against open company in the Robert Hilton Memorial Stakes last out, Ryan’s Run returned to West Virginia-bred opposition in the Russell Road Breeders’ Classic on Saturday. He promptly came back to the winner’s circle with an impressive 11-length victory. He made the rail and the lead from post position three, withstood pressure from third choice Coach Siggy, and drew away to win as the 1-5 favorite. He maintained his 5-for-5 record in state-bred company, including a pair of stakes wins. Runco and Bocachica teamed up for this victory; Runco was also the winning breeder.

LAUREL PARK

FIRST STAR: PACO THE TACO MAN. Earned his seventh win of the year in 11 starts in a determined ratings optional claiming dirt sprint on Saturday.

SECOND STAR: BLACKFIN. The daughter of champion mare Uni made her first try against winners a victorious one with an off-the-ace rally in a first-level allowance route on the grass earlier on the Saturday card.

THIRD STAR: METALLICAN. Improved to 3-for-3 lifetime in a first-level allowance win sprinting on the lawn on Friday.

CHARLES TOWN

FIRST STAR: JUBAWITHATWIST. Second in last year’s Sam Huff, he got his redemption in dominant style on Saturday.

SECOND STAR: ZIP START. Came from off of a contested pace to pull off the Cavada upset.

THIRD STAR: RYAN’S RUN. He’s far and away the best West Virginia-bred in his crop; the sky looks like the limit.

DELAWARE PARK

FIRST STAR: DUBOFF. Led all the way for a decisive 4 3/4–length victory in a second-level allowance sprint on the grass on Wednesday, her third win in her last four races.

SECOND STAR: WILDNCRAZYNIGHT. Two days after Duboff, this fellow Jersey-bred went gate-to-wire in a second-level allowance sprint on the grass.

THIRD STAR: OMAHA OMAHA. Multiple-stakes placed as a 3-year-old, he earned his first win since his 2-year-old season on Saturday by winning a stretch duel in a second-level allowance route on Saturday.

MEADOWLANDS

FIRST STAR: TARAJ. In his first start since August 2025, he rallied from last to take a first-level allowance route on Saturday.

SECOND STAR: BOASTFULLY IRISH. Rallied late and caught odds-on choice Matthew’s Ticket in a first-level allowance sprint for Jersey-breds on Friday.

THIRD STAR: SLICK MERLIN. Lasted through constant pressure to win a Jersey-bred allowance sprint of her own later on the Friday program.

PARX RACING

FIRST STAR: PREACHA MEYERS. Picked up his sixth win of the year in nine starts in a very determined second-level allowance route win on Tuesday.

SECOND STAR: QUASI WARRIOR. Set the pace and never looked back in a Pennsylvania-bred second-level allowance route on Wednesday.

THIRD STAR: TOCIK HALL. One race later on the Wednesday, he made the early lead and held on in a Pennsylvania-bred allowance sprint of his own; he’s never missed the exacta in his four-race career.
