Bourbon Bon Bay enjoys Cornucopia

Holiday-themed stakes were on the menu Thanksgiving Eve at Parx Racing, and that was perfectly tasty to Bourbon Bon Bay.

The five-year-old mare, making just her fourth career start, snagged her first stakes win with a one-length victory in the $75,000 Cornucopia Stakes for fillies and mares. Now four-for-four lifetime, Bourbon Bon Bay has $120,000 in career earnings.

On a holiday often centered around eating, Bourbon Bon Bay also was a sharp hunch play. By Bourbon Courage, she is out of the Majestic Warrior mare Sheza Dish. She returned $15.80 on a two-dollar wager after rallying under jockey Jomar Torres to best Oxana. Moma Tiger finished third, while post time favorite Remain Anonymous faded to 11th. Running time for the 6 ½ furlongs on a fast main track was 1:20.52.

Bourbon Bon Bay is trained by Ramon Martin for breeder-owner Erin Hlubik, who is also his wife.

The Let’s Give Thanks Stakes, a 6 ½-furlong test for the boys, also saw an upset as 9-1 Repo Rocks inched past 11-1 Twisted Ride to win by a neck in 1:18.85. Post time favorite Beren led early but had to settle for third, 1 ¼ lengths behind the winner.

It was the first career stakes win for Repo Rocks, a four-year-old Taptiure gelding trained by Jamie Ness for Double B Racing Stables. He’s now 5-for-30 in his career with earnings of $444,571. He was bred in Virginia by Mrs. C. Oliver Iselin, III.

Under jockey Andrew Wolfsont, Repo Rocks was never far back in third or fourth early, while Twisted Ride pressed the pace of Beren. Twisted Ride took over from Beren in the stretch but could not withstand Repo Rocks in the latter stages.

In the final stake of the day, the $75,000 Turkey Trot, four-year-old Ridin With Biden, the favorite, wore down 53-1 outsider Tough Tickets to win by 1 ¼ lengths. It was another five-plus lengths back to Lookin At Roses in third.

Under jockey Paco Lopez, Ridin With Biden, a four-year-old Constitution gelding, got the mile and 70 yards in 1:46.92. He is trained by Butch Reid for Cash Is King LLC and LC Racing LLC.

Ridin With Biden has six wins and $431,200 in earnings from 19 career starts. Among those are two additional stakes wins, including a triumph in the Grade 3 Greenwood Cup over the Parx strip Sept. 24.
