RACE 1
1-3-6-7
In the Saturday night opener, a rare, three-turn event for $5,000 claimers, #1 Postino’s Story (3-1) graduated last out against maiden claiming foes and seeks second straight tally here for owner-trainer Ronney Brown. #3 Roof Top Bar (8-5) has been third in each of last two outings for trainer Anthony Farrior and looms the likely post time choice in this spot. #6 Lufty’s Kisses (8-1) was decent fourth last out but could improve in this spot for trainer Rhea Pennella. #7 Hands Down (5-2) graduated against maiden claimers two back and gives Farrior a chance to run one-two here.
RACE 2
6-8-5-3
In this three-turn allowance for older runners, #6 Epimythium (9-5) has tried five different ovals since graduating against maiden claimers et Ellis Park and makes local debut here for trainer Anna Meah. #8 Medicine Tail (7-5) arrives off modest effort against allowance foes at Aqueduct last out and seeks first win since graduating against maiden special weight foes at Ellie Park at age two. #5 Narmer (5-1) finished solid third against allowance foes at Penn National last out for trainer Jonathan Maldonado and seeks first win since besting maiden claimers at Laurel Park last November. #3 I Am That I Am (10-1) has faced allowance foes at numerous ovals and looking to win at this level for owner-trainer Abdul Williams.
- What we learned on Maryland Juvenile Stakes dayHere’s what we learned at Laurel Park for Saturday’s Maryland Juvenile and Maryland Juvenile Filly Stakes.
RACE 3
1-5-6-7
In this two-turn event for $15,000 claimers, #1 Charitably Gifted (2-1) exits allowance company and gets favorable rail draw for trainer Javier Contreras. #5 Mio Graceland (7-2) exits allowance level and was solid second at this level two back and certainly merits respect here. #6 Doc Elm (5-2) also exits allowance company and graduated two back against maiden special weight foes. #7 Happy Years (9-2) gives Contreras outside chance to run one-two here.
RACE 4
7-5-4-2
In this one-turn dash for claimers, #7 Bahamian Girl (3-1) gets favorable outside draw for trainer Kristy Gazzier and gets the nod to forge mild upset here. #5 Artemis Rising (7-2) has been fourth in each of last two at Penn National but certainly merits respect in local debut for trainer Eduardo Rojas. #4 Exact (5-2) was solid second two back and can atone for latest outing as tepid favorite. #2 Uncanny (6-1) has been sixth in each of last two for trainer Stacey Viands of Parisian Diva fame but could round out several gimmicks at a generous price.
RACE 5
1-4-6-2
In this two-turn allowance for older runners, #1 Bubba Grump (9-2) won last out and sports seven wins overall for trainer Javier Contreras and owner-breeder O’Sullivan Farms and gets favorable inside draw here. #4 Algebraic (9-5) won two back at Laurel Park and won here last fall for trainer Hugh McMahon and looms the solid favorite in this spot. #6 Rookie Salsa (3-1) had two-race win streak snapped out last but merits respect here for trainer Claudio Gonzalez. #2 Boaster (6-1) has been consistent local sort for years for trainer Jeff Runco and could round out several gimmicks here.
RACE 6
3-6-1-2
In this three-turn allowance/optional claiming event, #3 Goodluckchuck (4-1) returns after four outings against starter claiming foes and sports a prior win over the strip for trainer W. Robert Bailes. #6 Cielo Azul (7-5) has won last two local starts and could be odds-on in three-peat bid here for trainer Anthony Farrior. #1 Tivano (3-1) has delivered three good efforts since arriving from Delaware Park for trainer Jack Hurley and merits respect in this spot. #2 Hobe Sound (6-1) has been second and third in last two tries and merits respect here at a modest price.
- Maryland Juvenile: A mystery solved, decades laterSaturday’s Maryland Juvenile Stakes should be a fun race, but it’s unlikely to launch the careers of two Classic winners, like the 1982 edition did.
RACE 7
9-7-2-1
In this interesting and very competitive, one-turn allowance dash for fillies and mares, #9 My Pretty Eyes (4-1) has won both of her seasonal outings and three straight overall for owner-breeder-trainer John McKee and gets favorable outside draw here. #7 Aadhana (7-2) was sharp maiden special weight winner in local debut and will be the one others will need to reel in final furlong. #2 Deemed Essential (6-1) was sharp second last out for Farrior and could forge mild upset in this spot. #1 Mamba Queen (8-5) makes local debut after facing much tougher in Florida and California but could be vulnerable here with tricky rail draw.
RACE 8
1-4-7-2
In the Saturday night finale, a two-turn affair for $5,000 claiming distaffers, #1 Lady Kaza (6-1) gets favorable rail draw for trainer Kevin Joy and deserves a look to end the card with an upset. #4 Gallinella (1-1) looms the potential odds-on favorite in this spot for trainer Dale Capuano. #7 So Red the Rose (5-2) has already won both of her seasonal outings and certainly merits respect here for trainer Ronney Brown. #2 Earned the Shot (8-1) has been third in each of last two for trainer Tim Shanley but could complete several gimmicks here at a decent price.
