- What we learned on Maryland Juvenile Stakes dayHere’s what we learned at Laurel Park for Saturday’s Maryland Juvenile and Maryland Juvenile Filly Stakes.
RACE NUMBER | CONTENDERS | COMMENTS |
Race 6 | 4-2-6-3 | Lasix on for top choice #4 Paper Mansion (3-1), who dueled with 1-5 winner before tiring late in last. We prefer that effort to that of the favorite in here, #6 Reid’s Fangirl (5-2), who rallied past this one for second that day… #2 Twodogsfourcats (7-2) has caught a couple of good ones in prior tries, and we’re not going to hold the up-the-track finish in the Parx Futurity against her too strongly. Facing maidens again, she can move forward… First-time starter #3 Abidale (5-1) is a half to a decent runner, and trainer John Servis wins at a 13% clip with first-timers in special weight company… |
Race 10 | 7-5-1-4 | Rider Frankie Pennington rode #6 Practical Coach (7-2) in the first five starts of his career, and that one’s an obvious contender here. But today he jumps ship to land on top choice #7 Loose Ends (3-1), who graduated last out against state-breds. First time around two turns for a horse who’s bred to do it in Loose Ends, who also makes his third start off a four-month break… #5 Nimitz (6-1) led throughout to graduate in his first try around two turns… #1 Undercover Kitty (9-2) looked like a good thing in graduating by six lengths in his first try with Lasix… Much-improved effort in last by #4 Vine Jet (5-1), and it probably didn’t hurt not to have to see runners like Witty and Dance Code. Winner Noneedtoworry returned to be fifth in the G3 Withers… |
