RACE 1
2-3-5-7
In this two-turn maiden special weight event for state-bred males to kick off the first Saturday card of the year, #2 Late in the Game (4-1) looks to make amends for his latest effort and gets the nod to forge a mild upset in this spot. #3 Noballstwostrikes (8-5) looms the solid favorite in this spot for trainer Jeff Runco and could graduate at a short price. #5 With Secret Energy (3-1) has been second in each of last two and merits respect here. #7 What an Ox (7-2) has been third in each of last two outings and could improve on those efforts here.
RACE 2
1-2-4-5
In the lone, three-turn event on the card, #1 Glory March (3-1) returns from Laurel after New Year’s Day outing and gets favorable rail draw here. #2 Wild Cappucino (5-1) has been consistent sort of late and inside draw could help provide minor upset. #4 Tonala (6-5) has won previous two local tries since arriving from Florida and looms the odds-on choice here. #5 Unexpectedly (15-1) won previous outing here and could live up to name with genuine shocker in this spot.
- Charles Town to kick off final 2024 racing weekCharles Town’s final week of racing for 2024 kicks off with a nine-race card Wednesday and continues through Saturday. Here’s what to watch for.
RACE 3
1-3-6-2
In this two-turn allowance/optional $25,000 claiming event for older runners, #1 Another Victory (9-5) won two of his last three starts last fall and gets favorable inside draw here for trainer Jeff Runco. #3 Rookie Salsa (2-1) won his most recent outing over the strip last fall and returns after several tries at Laurel for trainer Claudio Gonzalez. #6 Boaster (7-2) exits a pair of state-bred stakes and returns to a winnable spot and gives Runco chance to run one-two here. #4 Hobe Sound (8-1) has been consistent sort throughout his career and could regain winning ways for trainer Crystal Pickett at a decent price.
RACE 4
6-7-8-9
In this one-turn maiden special weight event for state-breds, #6 Remys Gunsmoke (7-5) was solid second in his most recent outing and looks poised to graduate here as the favorite for trainer Tim Grams. #7 Math Man Marco (5-2) makes career debut off a series of solid workouts at Penn National for trainer Irving Velez and could garner his diploma at first asking. #8 Road Party (3-1) also makes his career debut off a series of solid local works and gives Grams chance to run one-two here. #9 Rocket J. (15-1) also makes career debut for trainer Sara Kopecki and outside draw gives him a chance to round out several gimmicks at a big price.
RACE 5
8-2-1-4
In this tough, one-turn starter allowance for fillies and mares, #8 Lookingforanewspot (5-2) has won three of her last four local outings for trainer Anthony Farrior and gets favorable outside draw for this spot. #2 Make It a Double (3-1) has won her last two and certainly gives Farrior a chance to run one-two here. #1 Ms Headley (9-5) is actually making second seasonal outing after unsuccessful venture to Laurel Park two weeks ago for trainer Crystal Pickett. #4 Stylish Paint (6-1) finished third, fourth and fifth in last three for trainer Ronney Brown but deserves a look at a decent price here.
RACE 6
1-9-8-10
In this two-turn event for $15,000 claimers, #1 Pistol P (7-2) gets favorable inside draw while exiting allowance company and gets the nod to prevail here for trainer James W. Casey. #9 Tweet This (3-1) also exits several allowance events for trainer Tim Grams and looms a threat despite outside post. #8 Deshackled (4-1) returns from Laurel Park and merits respect in this spot for trainer Claudio Gonzalez. #10 Elvirus (8-1) also departs local allowance events for trainer Kristy Gazzier and deserves a look at a price despite outside draw.
- Maryland Juvenile: A mystery solved, decades laterSaturday’s Maryland Juvenile Stakes should be a fun race, but it’s unlikely to launch the careers of two Classic winners, like the 1982 edition did.
RACE 7
4-8-7-1
In this one-turn starter allowance for older runners, #4 Black Candy (2-1) will seek to emulate the performance of stablemate Storm Boarder three nights earlier for trainer Kevin Patterson. #8 To the Front (1-1) finished previous campaign with a sharp score against similar and will likely be odds-on in here for trainer Anthony Farrior. #7 Gran City (4-1) has been sharp in previous four outings at Mountaineer Park and looms a factor in his local debut. #1 Warm Sunny Breeze (15-1) makes local debut for trainer Mike Jones, Jr. and could round out several gimmicks at a generous price.
RACE 8
2-7-8-6
In this competitive two-turn starter allowance for fillies and mares, #2 Lady Macho (6-1) finished third against similar last out after besting claiming foes two starts back for trainer Anthony Rideoutt II and could regain winning ways in this spot at a generous price. #7 Jessica (9-5) has won her last four starts and could be odds-on in this spot for trainer Anthony Farrior. #8 Kalenjin (3-1) has won exactly one-half of her eight career tries to this point but has also developed into a genuine hit-or-miss proposition. #6 Alpine Moon (7-2) owns two wins and two second-place finishes against similar last four and certainly merits respect here.
RACE 9
3-5-7-6
In this two-turn event for $4,000 claimers to cap the card, #3 Odds On (6-1) will make just his second local appearance and will hardly be the favorite in this spot for trainer Juan Arriagada. #5 Sunman (8-5) makes seasonal debut for owner-trainer Crystal Pickett and could be the odds-on choice by post time. #7 Fit But Fat (8-1) also makes his seasonal debut for trainer Curtis Bass after closing out his previous campaign with several decent efforts. #6 Admire (5-2) makes first start in nearly an entire year for trainer Greg Viands and looms a threat if fit off the long layoff.
