MARYLAND MILLION SET FOR OCTOBER 23

The 36th edition of Jim McKay Maryland Million Day will take place on Saturday, October 23 at Laurel Park.

Due to COVID-19, no fans could attend the 35th running of Maryland’s Day at the Races, but a full day of racing featuring Maryland-sired horses took place, highlighted by the first Maryland Million Day winners for Maryland stallions Baltimore Bob, Imagining and Mosler.

Family connections abounded as Post Time won the Carter, and owner Ellen Charles thinks her star may get a little bit extra from that.

Monday Morning Qb (Imagining) took home top honors in the Maryland Million Classic, while odds-on favorite Hello Beautiful (Golden Lad) collected her second consecutive Maryland Million victory in the Distaff and Fiya (Friesan Fire) won the Maryland Million Turf Sprint, his stakes debut. Karan’s Notion (Great Notion), winner of the Maryland Million Sprint, proved to be the most popular victory of the day for owner/breeder/trainer Nancy Heil.

“After a very challenging year in 2020 we are looking forward to October 23 at Laurel Park to be a great day of racing and with fans in the stands again,” said Cricket Goodall, executive director of Maryland Million Ltd. “With several stallions having their two-year-old crops debuting this year, the breeding and racing industry in Maryland is ready to shine again on Maryland’s Day at the Races.”

Jim McKay Maryland Million Day features races for Maryland-sired horses with purses and awards of more than $1 million. Maryland Million Ltd. will be working closely with track management and county officials to determine on-track attendance protocols for the 2021 event.
