Maryland Million set for October 24
The 35th edition of Jim McKay Maryland Million Day will take place on Saturday, October 24 at Laurel Park. Over 20,000 people were in attendance to enjoy the 2019 renewal of Maryland’s Day at the Races, which featured races for eligible Maryland-sired horses. Wagering topped $6.5 million, which is the highest it has been since 2007. Superstar Anna’s Bandit (Great Notion) continued her impressive winning streak in the Maryland Million Distaff H. and Forest Fire (Friesan Fire) tallied another Maryland Million Classic win for his sire following Saratoga Bob in 2018. Hello Beautiful, by 2019 leading Mid-Atlantic Freshman sire Golden Lad, won the Maryland Million Lassie S. and gave us a glimpse into the bright future for progeny of Maryland’s up-and-coming stallions. “Jim McKay Maryland Million Day will again showcase the Maryland Horse industry. Racing and breeding horses are an important part of Maryland’s economy and landscape,” says Cricket Goodall, executive director of Maryland Million Ltd. “We are so proud to have a great family-oriented, fan-friendly day of racing every October at Laurel Park.” Jim McKay Maryland Million Day features races for Maryland-sired horses with purses and awards of more than $1 million. A diverse crowd of fans, industry professionals, and elected officials flock to Laurel Park each autumn to enjoy this competitive day of racing and a variety of other on-and-off-track activities.
