Two-year-olds take center stage at Delaware Park this afternoon, with the first two maiden special weight races of the meet on tap. Some awfully good horses have made their career debuts at Delaware – among them Barbaro and Havre de Grace – so these are often races to keep an eye on.

In the third race, seven two-year-olds are set to go five furlongs on the main track for a $34,000 purse. A couple horses we’re curious to see:

  • #1 Oldfashioned Club (2-1) flashed early speed before backing up in a $100,000 maiden race at Belmont Park and gets blinkers for his second career start…
  • #2 Blame It On Honey (4-1), a Blame colt, makes his career debut and has been training forwardly, including firing a bullet work last out, going five furlongs in 1:00 2/5 seconds…
  • #5 Pachi the Grey (10-1) showed little on debut but wheels back on just 10 days of rest and gets Lasix for the first time; trainer Jose Corrales has a positive ROI and good win percentage with second starters…

In the sixth race, two-year-old fillies take over. They, too, are going five furlongs. There’s a 7-5 favorite in here, in the form of #8 Trickizar, a daughter of Tapizar, who was fifth, but beaten just three lengths, in her last, in the Kentucky Juvenile Stakes at Churchill Downs a couple days prior to the Kentucky Derby. Who else in here?

  • #1a Sing Dixie Charge (5-1) rallied smartly to be second on debut and may not have liked the going in her last while shut off late…
  • #2 Bella Doncella (8-1) makes her career debut for trainer Jerenesto Torrez, who has positive ROIs doing just about everything, including with first-time starters; she fired a bullet two works ago and has a five-furlnog work in preparation for this…
