from a Maryland Jockey Club release

Frank Carulli ended his 11 ½ year stint as the Maryland Jockey Club’s racing analyst and handicapper this afternoon. Before the 5th race, Maryland Jockey Club president Tom Chuckas presented Carulli with two framed photos and a gift certificate to Sabatino’s Italian Restaurant in Little Italy. The 51-year-old is moving to Las Vegas next month to become a professional gambler.

Between races, Carulli awarded thank you gifts to some of his closest friends at Pimlico and Laurel Park after providing selections for each race.

“The plan was to make it a fun day. Hopefully the people were listening because there were some pretty good stories,” Carulli said. “These people have been my family for more than a decade and I will miss them.”

When racing resumes in September, Gabby Gaudet will be Carulli’s on-air replacement. Keith Feustle will handle the morning line role.

Carulli’s final on-air win selection was a sentimental choice, for King Leatherbury’s Rainbowappears, and he advocated for Leatherbury’s induction into the Hall of Fame during the analysis.  The horse ran fifth.
