Delaware Park picks and analysis: July 17, 2026

  • CARRYOVERS: None
  • POST TIME: 12:20 P.M.
  • NUMBER OF RACES: 10

RACE 1: 9-7-3-5

#9 Patton’s Tizzy switches into the Sepulveda barn (4-for-29 first off the claim) after a near-miss versus similar; speedy sort drawn outside, and veteran rider Cedeno will need to navigate tricky outside post… #7 Pierce Elevated made a nice middle move two back before tiring in late stages, could catch a favorable pace scenario in this spot… #3 Artwell may be speed of the speed; last couple might be better than they look, as he was never going with 1-9 Kerness last out and finished best of the early speed sorts two back…

RACE 2: 5-2-1-3

#5 Cha Cha Baby ran a really good race when second on debut; note that she and the winner distanced the rest of the field… #2 Cordova is a Hard Spun firster who is a half-sis to Grade 1 winner Secret Spice; trainer Stidham can win first out… #1 Martiniwithatwist had a really professional debut and likely learned a lot when second; Capuano barn hitting at 40% at the meet…

RACE 3: 8-6-5-2

#8 Kindred Hearts ran just OK last out when third as the favorite at Penn, but that was a race where the speed kept on keepin’ on; might catch a pace to run into here and has won at this level previously… #6 Getaway Palace is one of several in here with early speed and has a remarkable record at this 7 1/2-furlong trip (5-for-6)… #5 Expecting a Winner will look to stalk and pounce to continue her good run…

RACE 4: 6-5-1-3

#6 Engage At Will hasn’t had the best luck so far, catching a pair of rockets in her first two, including next-out Schuylerville winner Harper’s Corner in a race in which this one got clobbered leaving the gate; gets blinkers on and (likely) an easier group to contend with… #5 Where Are You makes her career bow for trainer Greg Compton, who has a positive ROI with juvenile debut runners; both sibs ran second on debut… #1 Royal Mist ran a decent race when second on debut and shows two breezes in the interim…

RACE 5: 6-5-3-4

#6 Good Bytes took most of her debut outing to figure out what she was doing, but she closed strongly and galloped out well ahead of the rest; could be sitting on a big one… #5 Blond Roast is out of a multiple graded stakes-winning turfer; was a $140k RNA as a yearling… #3 Extra Special likely will appreciate the added ground after being outfooted in a pair of sprints; half-brother Talk Show Man was a multiple stakes winner going two turns on the lawn…

RACE 6: 7-8-6-1

#7 Dream Eagle kicked in strongly but slightly too late last time out, closing fast on the outside and galloping out past the winner but a half-length shy of the victory; a repeat would likely be sufficient… #8 Oak Brook Lady gives trainer Robertson, who also has Dream Eagle, a shot at the exacta; this is a first-time starter who’s a half to a debut winner, and Robertson has a positive ROI with firsters… Another firster is #6 Our Sweet Harpie, a daughter of Vino Rosso (8% with debut runners), who goes out for trainer Steve Klesaris and has some speedy workouts on the page…

RACE 7: 4-3-9-6

#4 Dale’s Bluff should offer value after a couple of off-color outings; showed talent as a 2-year-old when in Phil Capuano’s barn, but most sophomore outings have been less promising; now back in the Capuano barn, and he peels the blinkers back off… #3 Midsummer Mo ran a good one last out when dropped to this level for the first time, showing plenty of speed and fighting on to the finish when second to 8-5 Queen Wilhelmina… #9 Thisishowwedoit tired in late stages last out and should benefit from the shorter trip in this one for high-percentage trainer Salvaggio…#11 Steady My Heart is worth a look if drawing in…

RACE 8: 3-4-1-2

#3 As the Bell Toles has been a completely different horse since stretched out to route distances, winning three of four with a second and steadily raising her Beyer figs; could be speed of the speed… #4 Violet’s Charm loomed a major threat with 5/16 to go last out but tired in the lane while still clear for the show; looks for a stalk-and-pounce trip… As for #1 Yes Picnic, where’d that race come from? She ran huge in her second off the bench and first around two turns, and a repeat would make her a handful here, but we wouldn’t be too aggressive on the odds until we see that again…

RACE 9: 3-2-4-5

#3 Speedyness is likely speed of the speed in this spot and continues to churn out good races: his last three defeats have all come to stakes winners; a win here puts him over $500k banked… #2 Shaft’s Bullet had a useful return to action when second going six furlongs versus similar, and that was his first start in over a year; trainer Gary Capuano has a strong second-off-the-bench record… #4 Tracking Error won nicely last out in a two-life allowance, but this group is substantially tougher than that one was, so this’ll be a class test…

RACE 10: 7-3-4-1

#7 Kitty’s Son has been in better form since April and finally finds a two-turn race at an appropriate class level… #3 Good Willie drops several levels after a clunker last out at Aqueduct; breeding says this two-turn trip shouldn’t be an issue, but that last at seven furlongs has to give you pause… #4 So So has run some good races at this level, including when a close-up third in latest, but he was a voided claim in that race and has been off two months since; best might be good enough, but we’ll wait and see on this one for the top spot…
